Hawke was out in the buildings as well, foraging for some resources for the winter. There wasn't too much more left to do other than to reinforce the walls of his home and obtain more materials for hide frames and wind breaks.

He was wearing little, which was normal for him. There was one shoulder bag, one waist cloth, sandals, and a cloak was wound about his shoulders to keep some of the chill at bay. The only form of protection that he had that could be used was his black stone knife that hung from a belt on his waist.

A paper-wrapped package under his arm, Thomas stepped out of a dilapidated store, ducking back as he nearly walked into the cloaked figure crossing in front of him. "Careful, dollface, you're not the only--" he began before he recognized the young man he'd nearly walked into. "Well, hello, birdy."

Hawke hadn't been expecting anyone to actually exit the buildings. He had been aware of living creatures around, but had assumed they were only animals. He'd only met Thomas through the PCD and so he didn't know him well.

The blond straightened, bowing slightly out of simple respect as he eyed the other carefully. "My sorrow. I was not expecting any person to be here." He still didn't like him using his sister's nick name, but he didn't bother to waist time to correct him.

There was really no better way to respond to that than a smirk, which was exactly what Thomas did. He eyed Hawke from head to toe and returned the bow with a flourish. "Neither was I, darling, but I think we can get over that."

"Are you settling well into Adstringendum?" He would have rather been somewhere else, but he was taught to be polite. Hawke decided he would get the pleasantries over soon and then be on his way.

"As well as anyone can get used to a post-apocalyptic hellhole," came the response, full of sarcastic cheer. He gestured to Hawke with the paper-wrapped package in his hand. "Not big on shirts, darling?"

He's learning better now. This man had little respect for things and Hawke was becoming accustomed to ignoring the sarcasm. It wasn't really directed at him. Still, the lack of respect for a person he barely knew still grated on him.

"My people do not wear human clothing," he responded levelly, keeping his eyes on Thomas and not on the movement of the package. "There is no need to hide behind cloth in my home."

To have respect and to show respect were two very different things. After all, Thomas respected his sister's abilities, her clout, and the way she had maneuvered him over a barrel. But he'd never show the extent of that respect, lest that gave his sister another advantage over him. It was, after all, much easier to be underestimated when no one knew just how much Thomas saw, or thought.

And, he would admit, there was a certain amount of fun in irritating people who thought too much of... well anything.

"Implying you're not human?" he drawled. "That's new and exciting."

"I am human," he answered simply. "The people who raised me are not." Hawke continued to be polite enough-enough that was deemed civil, at least. Had he a tail, the very tip would be twitching and his larger ears would have been statues. Tense, uncomfortable, and not really wanting to do this, but carrying on because that was what he should do.

"Are you human?"

Thomas, on the other hand, stood at ease, almost irritatingly so, and eyed the young man with a smirking, insolent smile. "I think that's a question you can answer just by looking, darling."

Unable, or unwilling to give a straight answer. Hawke's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Thomas. Just because a heart beat didn't mean he was human. "If that were truth, I would not have asked."

He shrugged fluidly with an expression of crafted nonchalance on his face. "Ah, not the type for rhetorical questions. That must save you a lot of time talking to people."

Not enough time saved, he thought. "There is a time for speaking about things and to think about them and there is a time to speak of things that are present. My sorrow for almost walking into you." Hawke bowed with every intention to carry on the rest of his day.

A too-perfect nod back and Thomas stepped out of the young man's way, gesturing towards the road. "It's all yours, darling."
