I'm sorry, my brain is so dead tonight morteanimositas March 17 2010, 03:17:36 UTC
Hey, Bennett was going to be the last one to argue about the desires of someone who was willing to lend her a hand - literally. The hello got her attention, and after a few moments the door swings open to one relieved woman.

"Hello! Ryuubi? Come in, come in! Thanks for being willing to do this in the first place."

"It's no problem at all." Not irritated, check. Ryuubi smiled widely. "Bennett, right?" He glanced around him as he walked in, taking in the sight of another house among the staggering variety that the city offered. The place looked lived in - Bennett had others from her world here, he recalled. Lucky woman.

"Renovating, hm?" It was a bit of a silly question to ask in Adstringendum, but he hoped she'd speak about her housemates. "Have you got a place to put the cow?"

"More along the lines of repairing. Renovating comes later, when the dust and walking mushrooms are gone." She didn't make the immediate connection between his question and the others she lived with, unfortunately.

"There's a yard in the back. A smaller, empty building where it's been while it rains and snows. Not sure what to do about heating, but there weren't any farms where I used to live so this is all fairly...well, new to me." She led Ryuubi through the building out towards the back. "The cow is pretty patient, at least. Has a fondness for coats."

"It's better than having no house at all." He gave her an honest smile. None of them could take anything for granted in the city, much less having someplace to live. "At least you have help."

He followed after her, now eager to see the animal. "They usually are, patient that is. They're easy animals once you know how to handle them. If the shelter you have is good, insulation might work well enough even without heating. I'll have to see."

Speaking of the others Bennett lived with, Topher was walking down the hallway in the opposite direction while simultaneously fiddling around with some sort of object--it vaguely resembled a television remote but with him you could never be sure. He walked right pass Ryuubi without lifting his head.

"Hey Bennett," he mumbled as he continued to fiddle.

Then he walked by the REAL Bennett. "Hey Ben--"

Stop. Pause. Waaaaaaaaaait.

"...Ben-nett!" He whined, "You have to stop inviting guests over without telling me! I'm not decent!"

He was of course, actually decent and dressed in his usual jean, t-shirt, long sleeve shirt combo but he aimed a sulky look at his girlfriend anyways.

"It's fortunate that there are so many buildings in this place. It would be more fortunate if there were electricity and water in each and every one of them, but that would be a civilized society in one way or another and I'm fairly certain Adstringedum is a bit away from that..."

Bennett stopped as soon as Topher addressed Ryuubi with a slight smirk. Oh really "Not decent or not awake?" She sighed and shook her head, but there was nothing in her expression that said she was actually annoyed - just amused. "Topher Brink, this is Ryuubi Gentoku. Ryuubi, this is my boyfriend Topher, who I wish I could say is usually a little more observant but. Well. Ryuubi is going to teach me to milk the cow, hopefully."

"Civilization takes time," Ryuubi answered serenely; he'd learned early on not to take things like electricity or water for granted, and the lesson stuck even after years off the farm not to mention off Earth. "We'll get there eventually, I'm sure."

He stopped along with Bennett. Oh, there went one of the housemates. Topher got a wide, friendly and curious smile, and an extended hand. "A pleasure, Mr. Topher. You look fairly decent to me."

"Just Topher is fine. Me and formal titles don't really get along. Too much authority, can't get away with anything that way."

Topher shook Ryuubi's hand with a shyer smile. "Yeah so imagine what I look like when I have to do my hair!" He shot a glance at Bennett. "Have you shown him Pinky yet?"

"No, we were on our way to do that." She still wasn't really sold on the whole 'calling the cow Pinky bit' but she figured that no matter how she felt in the end, the cow would end up being the cow no matter what they called it.

"Do you want to come with us, then? Probably be good for someone with both hands to observe this too."

"That's a good point," Ryuubi answered with a laugh, he was just as much more comfortable without titles himself. That half the people in the city insisted on using Earthside titles didn't help, though these two luckily didn't. "Just Topher, then, and don't mind if I do." His smile was just a little bit sly. People looking shy got that reaction out of him.

"Milking is actually quite possible one-handed, but I'm sure the cow won't object." He didn't comment on the name. It was a sensible name for a pink cow, after all.
