Near set down his device near the alter. Mello's remains lay not too far from there. Looking down, he shook his head. Even after death, I care for you... he thought to himself. One their last encounter, Mello said he should live this second chance at life. Near felt like he should take his advice.

Standing, he shook his clothes loose of the dust and soot that apparently taken hold of his clothes. Coughing a bit, he covered his nose and mouth so that he wouldn't inhale the tiny particles that flew in the air. I wonder if this air will make me sick....

Taking one last look around, Near turned around and greeted his friend. "Its no problem. Lets go... I need air..." he said quietly. He no longer mourned Mello, but he couldn't seem to part ways yet.

Death was one of those things that Uryuu had come way too close to, seen one too many of. He'd only seen one actual death in his time...but it was the one that had shaped his entire being. This couldn't be easy for Near; he didn't understand fully, he wouldn't pretend he did, but he wanted to be there for his friend.

He settled the blanket down on one of the pews, watching as Near turned around to greet him. "All right." He hesitated, then offered an arm. It was a strangely gallant gesture, but for some reason it just seemed like the right thing to do. A gesture of support, as it were.

Near looked at the arm and then back at Uryuu. He, too, hesitated. After a quick moment, he took his friend's arm and they walked out of the church. With a loud thud, the wooden doors closed behind them. Near looked back, thinking that maybe it was synbolic. Closing a chapter in his life? Starting anew and leaving the past behind? He didn't know.

Near let go of Uryuu's arm and the walked down the dirt path a bit. An awkward silence settled between the two boys in white. "What do you think of this... government scheme that's been circulating on the network?"

Working... Always trying to get answers. Near never stopped; it was simply in his nature-- sadly to say.

There seemed to be a lot of symbolism around these parts. Maybe it was a sort of a chapter of Near's life closing, or maybe it wasn't...it was hard to say. Metaphors and symbols were like that. Uryuu glanced back as well as the door thudded closed.

He dropped his arms when Near let go, instead walking along beside him. As the topic came up he frowned, very faintly. "I...don't know, honestly. I might be jaded, but it seems like a grab for power. I could understand it if we had things like those monsters and needed a centralized force, but..." He shook his head. "I'm probably just cynical."

Sometimes working and trying to get answers was the best course of action. Right now, it probably was.

Near stopped and dropped down to his hunches. He picked at a few pebbles, aligning them in a row. He then too the most similar and put them together.

"These people want order, but order to what? They may be angered by the two deaths that have occurred, but what can they do to punish the guilty party?"

Near looked up at Uryuu, "Power you say... Power for what? There is nothing here that is worth taking control over. Electricity that is provided by a person? Are they hoping to capture this being and hold him captive?"

Near swatted the group of pebbles away, leaving them to scatter in all directions. "I, too, wanted to form some sort of government. Something to assure safety and that things wouldn't get out of hand. However, most appear to get along with others. It is unnecessary... Even if those monsters from before were still out and about, they appear to have no real weakness. So why sacrifice people to do no damage to them?"

Near had been thinking quite a lot while holed up with a rotting corpse.
