As the spots next to her were already occupied, Ansem seated himself at an opening slightly across from her, nodding his head politely at the people seated on either side of him.

"This is quite the varied gathering, but I am pleased. And the food smells delicious. My compliments to the chefs."

((ooc: Whoever wants to sit next to Ansem can claim to do so.))

"Jut one chef, actually," Unohana said, laughing softly as she pointed at Kamui-san. "I am afraid that it has been too long since I cooked my own food. I am hopeless in a kitchen, but hopefully, Kamui-san will consent to teaching me."

"Ahhh, well, Kamui, thank you for preparing this meal for us all, and Ms. Unohana, thank you for inviting us all to this gathering. It's quite the nice occasion."

Kamui nodded and smiled in an embarrassed sort of way. "It's no problem."

He turned briefly to Unohana-san, "I'm sure you'll pick it up faster than I did."

"I certainly hope so," Unohana said. "We are getting more mouths to feed every day."

She turned to Ansem-san with a smile. He was one of the newcomers. This was as good a time to give and ask for information.

"Ansem-san ... Kamui-san and I know each other quite well now, but maybe you can tell us more about the world you came from."

"The world I come from?"

Ansem gave a small pause as he thought over what to say. His research? The light and darkness? There was so much to say, so much that could be said. Though they were strangers, he did not feel uneasy sharing his past with them even if there were still details that pained him.

"My home was called Radiant Garden. It was a peaceful city free from strife and unhappiness. It was a place of hope. I was the sage, a ruler some would say. Ansem the Wise, that was what I was known as."

He gave a small laugh. Wise? No. He was a foolish man who had been blinded by his own ambition.

"However, that is a time long ago. It has been... quite some time since I've seen my home."

Unohana nodded throughout the explanation.

"Wad this place on the planet called Earth, or was it somewhere else ?"

"Earth? That is a world I am not familiar with so no, it is not. I can only assume it is in an entirely different universe than the worlds many come from here."

He paused in thought before returning a question of your own.

"Though might I ask if there are things known as Heartless in your world? They are beings created when a person's heart is lost to Darkness."

Unohana pondered the question.

"We might have something that resembles what you just described. After a person dies, the souls chain that links them to their body is severed and they can go to Soul Society, the afterlife. Sometimes, a soul has strong links to its world and will remain. This is what human beings casually refer to as ghosts. Part of our job is to find them and send them to Soul Society.
However, a soul's regrets for its life will sometime take over, and the soul chain will then devour itself until it reaches the heart and devours it too, leaving a hole in the chest. These forsaken souls we call Hollow. They prey on other souls and need to be purified before going to Soul Society. This is another aspect of our job."

"This is an interesting parallel. My studies have shown light and darkness exist within all hearts, no matter the world, and as a result, Heartless can be formed if a heart is completely taken over. In my world, purging Heartless from the world was the job of Keyblade wielders."

Ansem paused slightly. "This is all very interesting. I wonder what other sorts of similarities can be found? But ah, perhaps a spot of food first. It all looks delicious and it'd be a shame for it to get cold."

"It seems that those Heartless that you speak of are alive, though," Unohana remarked. "Hollows are dead. We shinigami do not deal with the lving unless they are threatened by the dead."

She passed another dish to him and smiled.

"Is a being truly alive if they have no heart? Though my research has never turned up what happens if the soul is lost and the body and heart remains. Perhaps this is where things overlap more."

Ansem smiled and gave a small bow of his head as he took the dish, taking a good helping of food while leaving enough for everyone else. Freshly cooked food was something he had not had in awhile and it was quite the godsend.

"Once more, my compliments to the chef. Kamui, you are quite the cook," Ansem replied after he'd politely dabbed his mouth and beard and removed any excess food with the napkin.
