Summary: During the heatwave event, it's very hot, but Neji braves the heat for a few veggies for dinner. The following discussion turns out to be pretty long.
The heat had not relented any since the start of the week. The air was still terribly dry with a brightly shining sun Neji had grown to loathe over the past few days. His clan was named after the celestial object and yet it was the Uchiha that thrived under the heat of it. The irony wasn't lost on him, and it was a string of nearly seamless thoughts that kept him occupied as he walked.
The search for underground water had proven fruitless early in the week. Any moist veins of earth soaked up into the drier dirt above it as the sun baked the surface of the earth in a harsh haze. The SafeZone was beginning to bear a striking resemblance to the Wastelands as a result and the weather felt rather similar to Wind Country's desert. In bearable amounts, it was almost nostalgic- accompanied by the remembrance of home and Fire Country's leafy and shaded borders. Tall trees with thick branches and heavy canopies; flying in a cool, moist wind...
For a moment, it was enough, but then the illusion dispelled and disappointment returned as he glanced around at the rather plain surroundings. The greenhouse neared, and it would be the closest link to Konoha the shinobi had. Gardens were plentiful in the warm climate and the weather was rarely very harsh- at least not to this extent.
Stifling a sigh, Neji approached the door and pulled it open, mopping sweat from his brow with his sleeve as he stepped inside. It was fortunate that his clothing was good for this weather: long, white, loose sleeves and pants to cover his skin and reflect light and take advantages of the occasional mild winds, but the walk was just as hot, just as tiring, that he barely noticed that it had any effect.
Closing the door behind him, Neji leaned against it for a moment to regain himself- noting briefly that the air wasnt so dry in here- then glanced up and straightened.
"Maes-san," He greeted pleasantly with a nod and a tired smile, "You're always working."
It might have been a slightly hypocritical statement.
