My baby is such a big boy! He turned two months old this past Tuesday and had his 2-month well baby visit on Wednesday. He was up to 11 lb 6 oz and 23 inches! If he keeps growing at this rate, he'll be bigger than me by the time he starts preschool!
He's a very happy baby, even though he usually wears his daddy's trademark "serious face." But he smiles and giggles and squeals and coos and gurgles a lot, especially when he's in a good mood right after naps. Still hates tummy time with a passion, though. I slacked on making him get in tummy time for the first two months, but the pediatrician says I need to make him stay on his belly for 45 minutes a day even when he hollers about it, because he's still got head lag. So I'm trying to gradually work him up to that amount of time. He'll generally be okay on his tummy for about 45 seconds, and then he screams the rest of the time. Yesterday, he cried himself to sleep after about 10 minutes, then woke up five minutes later and started screaming again. It breaks my heart, but he really needs to get used to it. Does anyone have any ideas for how to help him enjoy it more? He gets his tummy time on the Kick & Crawl Aquarium Gym playmat, but he's not really old enough (or physically developed enough) to play with the toys, so that doesn't help.
In other news, he's sleeping now from 9 pm until 5 or 6 am, with feedings every 3 hours during the day. He's now taking 5 ounces six times a day, so 30 ounces per day. Friday night, I put him down at about 10 pm, and he didn't wake up until after 8 am!
I kept going in the nursery to check and make sure he was still breathing, because he's never slept that long before!
I'm still pumping 3 times a day, but my supply is down a little, so I'm only able to freeze about 6 ounces a day instead of the 10-15 that I used to store. But I think that might be because I'm on a water pill. My OB put me on one because my legs and ankles were still pretty swollen at my 6-week postpartum checkup. I've been taking the water pill every day for the past several weeks, and I think the swelling is down some, but I'm still fairly puffy. I can wear some of my old shoes again, but none of my old heels.
And I don't wear skirts much because of how fat my ankles look. Guess I need to invest in some more pants.
In happier news, though, I'm only about 10-15 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. Pretty good for just two months, considering that I gained 60 pounds! Unfortunately, my weight is distributed very differently now. I've never had a particularly svelte figure, but I'm now decidedly apple-shaped. Very sad. Apparently, in addition to pants to hide my cankles, I also need some tummy-hidding empire-waist tops. Difficult to find for me, since my boobs are so gigantic. I'm so not looking forward to seeing pictures of me at Liz's wedding in six weeks. If you'll recall, the dress looks like this:
It's not gonna be pretty.
Miriam is back at school. She moved into her dorm on my birthday, and Bear and I went to Tuscaloosa that afternoon after mass to have lunch with her and my parents. Then after Mama and Daddy left, Miri and I pushed Bear around the Quad in the stroller. He slept right through his first visit to UA! I got pictures of him at a few of the notable landmarks anyway, though.
For my birthday, Ali got me the most spectacular necklace and earring set! It's pearl with diamond accents. He doesn't usually buy me jewelry, but when he does, it's always absolutely beautiful. He generally gets me Swarovski crystal figurines as gifts. My "push present" was a crystal bear holding a blue bottle and pacifier...it's adorable!
And here is my birthday necklace. Sadly, I couldn't find a picture of the earrings:
We've gotten into the routine of getting out of the house on Sundays (for mass) and Wednesdays (for grocery shopping), but aside from that, we stick close to home. I push him around the subdivision in the stroller for half an hour or so three days a week, just so I get a little exercise, but it's just so hot! Plus, with it being hurricane season, it's been raining a lot lately. But we muddle through. And he loves being in the stroller. He's super-alert, just taking in the sights, for about a minute and a half, and then he falls sound asleep!
Yesterday was Bear's first Alabama football game! We had about half a dozen people over to cook out and drink and watch the game. The last of them didn't leave until almost midnight! But we kicked Clemson's butt, and Bear loved having all the people over. He looked so cute in his red collared Bama onesie with Big Al on it! He wasn't really too sure what to do with the shaker I put in his hand, though, LOL.
Ali's cousin Malek moved down from Indiana yesterday. He got a job with the same company Ali works for! I'm SOOOO excited that he's here...he's just the most awesome, amazing, sweet guy you'll ever meet. And he's great with Bear! He's going to have to teach Bear Arabic for me, since I never learned it all that well myself.
Also, Ali's dad and stepmom will be here later this week. They're going on a cruise for her birthday, and they're leaving from Mobile, so they're going to stop by here on their way down to catch the ship. We're excited for that because his stepmom was in Jordan all summer, so she hasn't met Bear yet.
Okay, I'm about to go get ready for mass before Bear wakes up for his 9 am feeding, but pictures are coming up next...and there are a lot of them!
