Good, Bad, and Ugly

Update

Bad: Well, the wife's talked with the water department. We're still responsible for the water used. We might be able to talk something out of Roto-rooter, but I can guarantee it's not gonna be full payment. Such is life.

Ugly: The mutual fund cashout arrived. It'll help cover the surprise water bill, and that stupid flood insurance payment that I'll be making in June. It gives us time to breathe. But we're going to have to control ourselves and manage money, else it'll go fast. A few thousand just doesn't cover the same ground it used to... Le sigh. So Origins will be done on a budget (Fortunately both the badge and one big major event are prepaid, and housing will be with my inlaws so that's good.) And I'll be pinching pennies to cover Gencon. Worse comes to worse, the credit card will soak it. (Though I don't want to rely on that. Credit Card bloat can kill you if you just let it go.)

Good: Baby is developing on schedule and properly, thus far. She/he's got heartbeat, and has a preference for sleeping facedown. So far, taking after mother.

This weekend, starting friday, we are going to be on vacation for a bit. We are going to the Hocking Hills, and staying in a castle!

We've been there before. It's a nice little bed and breakfast, with a renaissance gimmick. The place is out in the middle of nowhere, and nice and quiet. The castle's a cinderblock replica, more decorative then defensive but that's fine. :) It's also got a little "village" of cabins that are fairy-tale themed. Breakfast is okay, but the prices and the solitude and the quirkiness are the main draw.

The place has also hit hard times recently, and I believe that the current owners are looking to sell it. So I don't know how much longer it'll be around.

But yeah, this place is a nice central base for checking out the Hocking area... Hitting all the little amish crafts places, and antiques shops, walking the caves and trails of the area, and eating at awesome dutch restaurants. We tried to invite a few more people along, but they had to cancel due to time or money commitments. Pity, but maybe another year we can try again.

It'll be good to get away from all these financial woes, and the manic-depressive pace of my job. It'll be good for Taz to get outta the house, and to some place where she doesn't have to worry about the chores.

Life is good, really. We hit a few annoyances here and there, but it goes on.
