Well now! My wife's a genius!
Turns out that the "leak" probably wasn't a leak at all.
Back when we were getting our pipes fixed in January, the plumbers used forced cleaning to get the roots and other crap out of the pipes. Turns out that it went on for hours. (I was out working at the time. Turns out they used our water to do it. (Which is fine, but they didn't tell us what they were doing, or how MUCH they would use.)
Mystery solved. Well, maybe. Der Seiplewife is gonna check with the engineer when he comes out today, and determine our next course of action. Odds are good we're not gonna have to pay the full $700, or we might be able to wring concessions out of roto-rooter or the insurance company for this.
I love my wife! It's good to have someone to put my back to, and know that it will be covered...
