Yo Live-Action Joe!

Knowing how I love all things G.I. Joe, Graig sent me this link today: G.I. Joe live action movie.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. As Graig pointed out, this probably can't be any worse than the cartoons, which, I admit, are pretty silly, and yet I still love them with an undying passion that I cannot fully explain. Intellectually, I know the cartoons aren't great, but emotionally... I love 'em to pieces (and I mean that literally, my old VHS tapes are pretty darn worn from watching the episodes over and over again.) So this basically means that for me, the movie CAN be worse than the cartoons...

Of course, if the producers/writers/directors etc. of this movie are smart, they won't go the cartoon route, they'll take it more from the comic books, which were more serious and actually had people die, rather than just Duke going into a coma every few episodes or so. And if the producers/writers/directors etc. were REALLY smart, they might look into using the 'Most Dangerous Man in the World' plotline. This plotline, devised by series writer Buzz Dixon, sounded amazing. He tells all about it in an interview here: inteview with Buzz Dixon. Sounds brilliant, doesn't it? Actually, I highly recommend reading all the interviews on the GI Joe Cartoon Website with the various series writers, there's lots of interesting tidbits. And I was also likewise tickled to read that Buzz Dixon's favourite episode was the 2 part Traitor, which is also my very favourite episode.

So yeah, anyway, I have nothing against Mark Whalberg and Duke is definitely nowhere near a favoured Joe of mine... so whatever. No, for me, my enjoyment of this is going to hinge on who's in the lineup, and if my favourites are there, then who's gonna play them?

And no, I don't think it'll be as awesome as the cartoons are.
