I think you may be hard pressed to find such a division like the one Yonge Street creates. I think a lot of that East/West thinking is from the way they named the streets. You can't say you live on Eglinton avenue, you have to say Eglinton WEST. I mean think about how different Queen St East and Queen St West are. Or Dundas St East and Dundas St West. Yonge Street and the East/West division have artifically created tiny pockets of neighborhoods within neighborhoods ( ... )

I only live in a medium sized city (90k), but we have a very clear East/West division as well as a downtown/not downtown division

In Melbourne (about 3.2 million) there is the East (yuppie scum) and West (just plain scum) with the North (ethnic scum) and the Central Business District (capitalist scum) acting as a buffer between them. There's also the South-East (more yuppie scum hehehehe) thrown in as well... So we definitely appreciate the old East (yay! I have lived in the East since coming to Melbourne until this recent move) vs West (boo! I have to work in stinky Footscray, one of the heroin centres of the city) divisions, even if we don't have anything as distinct as Yonge Street to divide them. Melbourne rivals Toronto for sprawling urbanity, if not crazy underground architecture and driving snowstorms... :-P

PS I live in the Inner North ('bohemian'/ethnic scum).

PPS We are all scum in Melbourne. :-P Nothing as urbane as Torontians... Torontans? Torontonians?

Sorry I posted from up to down... so I posted HERE first... posted a couple of other places and then realized I hadn't signed so created my darn account... which took a bit of time as I had to find a name... watch the CSI pilot episode and TRY to get my picture.

problems with pic first was file size too big... then file was saved as wrong type and now the pic itself is too big as even though it's less then 40k- a mere 7.19k... it's more then 100x 100.

So gonna try figure that out tomorrow.

and forgot to verify that I wasn't a robot.
