Recently, Jet had his yearly physical and we were told, in no uncertain terms, that he needs to drink more milk. This isn't terribly surprising since the only milk that is regularly consumed in our house is with cereal in the morning. When Jet was having regular lunch at his old daycare, I know he didn't drink it there either, as they asked me about it. I had hoped he would drink it, but he didn't.
Part of the problem here is that well... I'm part of the problem. I don't like drinking milk either. I don't like the taste of it, I don't like the consistency of it and it usually makes my asthma worse if I drink a lot of it, above and beyond my usual milk-in-the-cereal-mornings. So yeah, I don't. I do take a calcium supplement (still taking it now too, on top of the prenatal vitamins), and I've always made Jet take vitamins, plus Graig makes us smoothies with yogurt quite often, but I guess it's not good enough.
So now I'm faced with a couple of things; 1) I can make a pact with Jet. We both have to drink more milk, even though we don't like it. I will suffer along with him and we will attempt to drink at least a glass of milk at supper every day. 2) I resort to feeding the kid chocolate milk in an effort to get him to drink more milk.
Somehow, number 2 seems to be the easiest route. I do like the taste of chocolate milk, but it will have the same effect on my asthma that regular milk has, and with the communion alien already making breathing a little more difficult, I'm not currently looking to restrict that any further. HOWEVER, I know Jet will drink chocolate milk for sure. The nice thing though is that the
Dieticians of Canada say that chocolate milk isn't really any worse than white milk for you. So that's good.
But there's something about the idea of feeding him CHOCOLATE milk that makes me think I'm being... bad.
