Weekend randomness

I shouldn't listen to the radio in the mornings. Hearing -28C with the windchill does not inspire me to get out of bed. At all.

'Twas a good weekend overall. On Friday, Jet had a play date with the other new boy in his class. It seemed to go well. Jet said he had fun even though he ended up playing more with his classmate's younger brother. Said younger brother is really into Lego, which Jet is also all over these days. But whatever, it's just good my kid is out and playing with other children, something he's usually resistant to doing outside of school/daycare hours...

Saturday I cleaned the house. It needed it. It hadn't been done since we moved in and the place REALLY needed to be vacuumed. Also played with Jet a bit, but his constant refrain of 'when is Uncle Brendan coming over?' eventually drove me up the wall. As yes, my bro was coming over that evening to look after Jet and Jet was extremely excited about it.

But before he could come over, my bro was helping my husband move all the remaining of our detritus out of the basement of the old house. This meant a dumping off of old electronica (both my brother and I inherit stuff from our dad when dad decides to upgrade whatever every three or four years) at the electronic recycling depot. And there was also a large bunch of stuff (clothes, toys, books, househould items and a love-seat-sofa-bed) that needed to go to Goodwill. We really have accumulated too much stuff over the years.

But once that was done, Graig and my bro came home, Jet was ecstatic and Graig and I got ready to head off to our company's 20th anniversary party. Yes, the place we work for turned 20 this year. And funny enough, this is my 10th year here (gods, I can't believe I've worked in the same place for so long), so I (and the others who have been here for 10 years) got recognition of our status. Which was nice. In talking this milestone over with another co-worker who is in his 9th year, we realized that the main reason for not looking for another job basically comes down to laziness. We don't mind what we do (and agree that the overall 'job' would be pretty much the same anywhere else), we really like who we work with, and well, we have a good job with a pretty good company, so yeah, no real reason to move. It made me feel better about being here for so long. Overall, the party, held at the Four Seasons Hotel was good. It was a nice evening out, even though we didn't really stay out too late. We were home a little after midnight, sent my brother home on the same cab-chit we had, and went to bed where Graig and I proceeded to natter at one another until 2:30 in the morning.

Sunday Jet got up around 9, bless him, but we were running behind getting him ready to go for his swimming lesson. His dad showed up right at 9:30 and Jet scrambled to get dressed and out the door. After he was gone, I went back to bed and we didn't surface again until noon. It was heaven and something Graig and I haven't done for a loooong time. The rest was needed we realized. We then spent the day unpacking and moving things around again. Graig began tackling the basement, bless him. We have far too many extra appliances down there, so if anyone needs a matching washer/dryer, a portable washing machine (this thing is brilliant because you can wheel it over to a sink and hook it up like a portable dishwasher), or a portable dishwasher, for very reasonable prices, let me know. It's looking like an appliance store clearance centre in the basement, and we'd like to get rid of this stuff.

Watched the NHL All-Star game. 22 goals. It really is the most expensive game of shinny hockey out there. Pretty goals for sure, but non-existent defense. Must be disheartening to be a goalie in the All-star game. Oh, and Alexander Ovechkin is still just a joy to watch.

And that's all folks.

hockey, house, moving, my boy
