Even in this day and age of electronic gadget planning, I've always found the best way for me to keep track of all the stuff going on in my (and my husband's and my son's) life is to write it down on a nice, big, old fashioned wall calendar that hangs somewhere accessible by all.
In the old house, we had a bulletin board hanging in the kitchen, and this is where the calendar lived. Graig had told me before that he has a hard time keeping track of when things happen (and I've seen this in action quite a few times), so I invited him to also get used to the idea of writing things down on the calendar so we'd (I'd) know about them. It took him a few months, but he got used to the idea and realized it does make life easier.
Right now though, I don't have a handy-dandy, old fashioned wall calendar hanging in the new house. Oh hooo boy do I miss it. Right now, I'm living off dates entered into my Blackberry. It's fine, but it's not the instant reference point I'm used to. I can't just glance at the calendar and see everything I have to do so far in a month, no, with the phone it requires scrolling, and I don't like it. There's a lot of appointments this month that I have to keep straight and to remind Graig about, and it's getting rather annoying that I don't have them displayed somewhere. The amount of mental energy I'm having to expend to keep track of things is way more than I'm used to having to spend on it. And as I said, there's a lot to keep track of.
I had hoped that January would end up being less hectic than December was, given that we moved at the beginning of January and so got that out of the way early, but it definitely hasn't turned out that way. Instead, this month feels even MORE busy. But I know some of that just has to do with the constant moving in process where things are rearranged and moved and then moved back until you're semi-happy with where they're living. It's an on going journey :)
Of course, this is easily remedied by my simply going to get a calendar, I just needed to grouse about not having one first. Grousing done :)
