Graig and I decided to take Friday afternoon off from work and take in a viewing of Iron Man at the new AMC theatre at Yonge/Dundas Square. I wasn't really sure if I should take the afternoon off, but after co-worker Andy's firm "go, have fun", we headed out at 1pm, had a quick bite to eat, scored some popcorn and settled in for good, superheroey fun.
Which is exactly what Iron Man was. Good, superheroey fun. Rober Downey Jr. was perfect. Absolutely, note perfect. And the '36 hours ago' montage of Tony Stark's life caught every aspect of his personality in 10 minutes flat. It was brilliant. This was a fabulous superhero origin story.
Kinda hard to rectify the Dude as a bad guy, but Jeff Bridges did good too.
The suit and all the gadgets were well done and suitably comic-booky high tech.
Oh and guess what? Gwyneth Paltrow actually didn't annoy me that much. 'Tis a miracle!
And the lovely little extra scene after the long, long credits was worth the wait for the pure, geeky thrill it delivered.
I'm not an Iron Man fan by any stretch of the imagination. My total exposure to the character has been a few appearances in Captain America or Avengers (on the odd occasions I read this), but I really enjoyed the heck out of this movie.
