Yes, that is a quote from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and that will be my new mantra for the year :)
On Saturday, I did indeed turn 37. I'm still toying with the idea of saying I'm only 28, but I admit, the shock with which most people react to my saying how old I really am (they all think I'm younger, much younger), well, its not a bad boost to the ego :)
Anyway, I did have a lovely, if extremely busy, weekend. Friday's day off to go apple picking with Jet's daycare was great fun.
Devins Orchards was a very nice place, the apples were delicious (well, actually they were Cortlands) and the kids all had a great time. I also learned an interesting fact about store bought apples in that all apples you buy from a grocery store have been in storage for nearly a year before they hit the shelves. No wonder fresh picked apples have so much more taste and juice to them! It's enough to make you want to go pick apples every year. Which may have been their dasterdly plan, now that I think about it...
The viewing of the taping of the Rick Mercer Report on Friday was a blast. The entire thing only took an hour, but it was fun, and the Celebrity Tip with Conrad Black was a hoot. As were Rick's anecdotes about going down to Florida and meeting Conrad for the taping of the segment. He comes off as a very personable guy overall, likes people and likes to chat, and you do get the idea that he still cannot quite believe that he gets to run around the country (for the most part), meet all these interesting people and, in a lot of cases, get to do something rather off the wall with them. It's a fun job that he obviously loves. After the taping, rather than simply just disappearing, Rick stands outside and meets and greets everyone, where you can get an autograph or have your picture taken with him. I did both:
Saturday, my actual birthday, I mainly worked in the garden, begining the preparation for winter as I tried to weed large portions and clear out summer dead growth. Lots of work, but it will mean less work in the spring. I hope. Graig headed off to my grandparents' abode in order to borrow the car for the weekend, so we could move some more of his belongings over, and so we could get Jet to the birthday party he was invited to. Despite a long, loud, teary protest before going to the party, the kid did have fun and I think it was an important step in addressing some of Jet's separation anxiety that we left him at the party, even though some other parents stayed. But there were plenty of kids from his daycare he knew, lots of stuff to do, cake, etc. And when we returned from grocery shopping to pick him up, we were greeted with the happy refrain "I don't want to go home yet!" Told ya you'd have fun ya rotten kid ;)
Sunday was another run down to Graig's old place for more stuff of the kitchen, bedding and clothing varieties. The house is a bit of a mess again, but most everything is finding a place to live in our house. More purging needs to be done here and there though. We also stopped by
Word on the Street for a little bit. It was a busy weekend over all in downtown T.O., and due to the very nice weather, WotS was especially busy. We really only did a quick run-through, I'd just bought myself a copy of Naomi Klein's latest book,
The Shock Doctrine, as I always find it interesting the perceived 'vulture' effect that seems to happen after a huge, social upheaval or disaster, plus I really enjoyed her book No Logo. But I really should finish the two books I currently have on the go before I launch this one.
After WotS and loading up the car, we raced back home to meet up with
kon_el333. We were supposed to game that evening, but due to various circumstances, things were cancelled so we went to see
The Kingdom which I enjoyed a fair bit despite my having a rather huge mental block that kept me from remembering anythign about this movie even though I'd seen trailers for it. It was a good movie, but there was a rather cliche, manipulative part towards the end that I totally could've done without. Enjoyable, but not 'you must rush out and see this movie' enjoyable.
Overall, my first birthday as Mrs. Kent was very good :)
