Hope everyone had a good Mardi Gras. Mine was pretty busy, but I got a lot accomplished...so, that's good. I had a little get-together over at my mom's on Sunday for the bridesmaids and house party attendants. I think it went pretty well. One of my mom's friends cooked lunch for us, and Steven's mom picked up some cakes from Ms. Gwen, who is making the cakes for the wedding. Lunch and the cakes were awesome...got lots 'o input from everyone there on which cake was best (the amaretto cream cake was the bomb!) They all helped me tie ribbons on these little bells that we're going to have at the reception...it took awhile, but we got lots done! It was cool getting to see everyone together again. A few of the girls are friends of mine from high school who I don't see very often (last time I saw Taniecea and Martina was like a year ago!). So, if nothing else, it was fun just getting to hang out!
On Monday I went to have my first fitting for the wedding dress. I was so pumped because the thing actually fit comfortably. Last time I tried it on, it was a little snug. Who am I kidding, I almost busted the zipper on the thing the last time I tried it on...haha! The seamstress is really awesome, but she's a tad pricey. I guess, though, as long as it comes out right it's worth the expense. For all you girls out there that are getting married in the near future, and there are quite a few of you, get ready...the seamstress WILL touch your boobies. I'm just warning you...she was ALL up in my boobies. The petticoat that I ordered didn't end up working with my dress. It just didn't look or feel right. Luckily the seamstress had one that we're going to buy from her, but now I've got this big ass skirt that I have no use for (the bridal shop won't take it back, of course). Oh yeah, so if anyone is looking for a full petticoat, lemme know. It's brand new...I'll cut you a deal! Haha! I go back for my second fitting on February 25th. I'm looking forward to it...the dress is so pretty!
I ran a TON of errands during the break taking care of things for the wedding. I think I bought out all of the ivory and sage ribbon in Lafayette:) I bought the paper for the programs too. I managed to find paper that looks exactly like the invitations...it's a sign. Last night I tied little candy bags for the reception...that's right, I spent my 22nd birthday watching tv and making bows. I enjoyed it though! I met with the reception coordinator today, Keith. He is so awesome! I just turn over all of the names and numbers of the vendors we've hired (cake, florist, band, etc.), and HE contacts them and coordinates everything. That's so nice! We're supposed to set up an appointment with him like a month before the big day to look at pictures of his past receptions to figure out exactly what we want, and then we meet with him the week of the wedding. He told me that he meets with us the week of to see if anything is going wrong (i.e. the bridesmaids dresses are not in, or something), and HE takes care of it. Man, he's awesome.
Other than wedding stuff, life has been good. Crazy, but good. Student teaching is going ok...I'm not digging getting up so early, but it's getting easier. The students are funny, and I catch myself thinking,"Was I like this in high school??" Steven and I are also trying to plan things for when I start med school. We went to New Orleans the last few weekends to look at houses. We've put in a bid on one in River Ridge:) We just did the inspection, so we've sent them a list of the things we'd like to be taken care of...we'll see if they accept. I'll keep you posted!
Well, I'm now back in the big BR trying to forget the fact that I have to be up at 5am. Boy I'm ready for this semester to be over...I've got a LONG way to go!! The wedding is getting really close! It's like 4 1/2 monthes away...oh man. That's soon! So much to do...so little time. Ahh!
