Working at this Writer's Conference a few weeks ago reminded me of something. It's really f*cking hard to sell books these days. I had to stop people in their tracks and almost literally tie them down or block them from moving in order to get them to buy a book. Too many people are into this whole books on tape thing and never actually read anything in print. When was the last time you picked up a book and actually read it? I asked a lot of people that question and they couldn't even remember. That's just sad. So a large chunk of society is illiterate so some extent or another and seriously unmotivated. If I can do 90 hour work weeks, barely get any sleep and still manage to read, so can you.
I enjoy the feel of an old disentegrating book in my hands or a new one that will slowly absorb every essence of me and my surroundings. I never throw away a book. I even have those squishy plastic ones from when I was a toddler. Okay, maybe I'm just a total book freak, but I rather read a book on the train than listen to one.
