I think I'm going to put Breath of Fire 3 down for a while...I hadn't touched my rollerblades for almost a week because I was so into the game. And just had a huge plot twist. o: But now I've got to that bit of an RPG where you can't move anywhere without ridiculous amounts of levelling, which is irritating, so I'll leave it for a bit. I've started up the original Breath of Fire just now, which is a classic and it's better than the sequel, I don't care what anyone says.
Yeah, one of these days I might actually complete an NES RPG. You know Dragon Warrior? I actually rescued the princess in that one. By NES standards, that's an incredible achievement! Unfortunately there is no other game which requires such massive levelling...I need about 5000 exp or something, and every enemy gives me about 100. Good grief.
But no, I meant something like Dragon Warrior IV, which is amazing. The only NES game I've completed so far is Kirby's Adventure. (which has such a beautiful ending)
For a while I was absolutely hooked onto Dragon Warrior V. It seemed near perfect at the time, but had a flaw which was rather irritating. You'd get a companion, and go around levelling them up and getting really fantastic abilities, and....and then they'd leave your party, and all the experience you had bothered getting with them became a complete and utter waste. And then you'd get another companion instead. You'd get to level them up instead, in a huge laborious process...and then they'd leave as well.
And then again. and again. Of course, your hero is still benefiting from the whole thing, but he's still stuck being abandoned by his friends who have to rush off because they've been kidnapped, or are secretly the heir to the throne and can't stay around, or have to rush off to the Land of the Elves, or some silly reason. At least SOME ONE could stick around for him!
That land of the Elves was still awesome, though.
