The importance of Music Education

Sep 23, 2007 04:02

I reviewed my philosophy on Music Education and read my views that the important part is for the music teacher is not forget that they are first and foremost a teacher. I also added the significance of teaching music in schools. Within school budgets, fine arts (usually relaying towards music and art) are first on the list is get cut. Some schools end up eliminating these programs because of such budget cuts and some believe that these programs serve no purpose to the students. That really sucks. As a music major and a musician, my days of band was the best part of high school and learning the art of music helped me grow into the individual I am today. I know I can never speak for everyone, because there are some that never took any fine art courses to fully sympathize with this ordeal.

Reason why I'm angry about this is my roommate Veronica, who just started teaching at one of the high schools here in Vegas has some issues with her administration. First off, the administration of this high school told the student council that they don't have to listen to her. After arguing with the administrative staff, Veronica's principal presented her with paperwork being ready to process to fully cut the music program out of the high school. That's bullshit. First, she may be out of a job and it really sucks because she just started. Second, the fact that they're just going to get rid of the program as though it means completely nothing and can never see the benefits it has to offer.

I feel bad for Veronica because she's been having issues with the administration since she started.

I can't believe this.
