As you may recall, I created the kitty litter cabinets. Chester walks through the first half with a carpet mat to get to the box. He's been using it fine

I'd maybe try the door off. I have read (not sure if I believed it) that cats don't like enclosed litter boxes because it makes them feel "trapped" if a predator came around. Now since cats like to hide in holes I thought this was weird, but hey, something to consider!
Worst case scenario, can you move the litter box to the first compartment and add a brush or something to the entrance hole?
usually when i have a litterbox issue i go back to when they last used the litterbox successfully. so you could try taking it out of the cabinet, see if he uses it. if he does, then its the cabinet. if he doesnt, then its something else.
natures miracle is great for getting rid of piss smell if you need it lol
try taking the door off, one of my cats cannot use an inclosed litter box, she just will not, but the other is fine, as soon as i removed the lid, she has not has any problems using it.
1. I'm using a natural litter that isn't scented. It just smells like the wheat used in making it.
2. We were at the vet the other day.
3. Clumping litter that gets cleaned daily.
See he uses the litter box 90% of the time... and it's just that 10% I'm worried about. Currently he's using the litter cabinet, and I haven't found messes anywhere in the house. If I physically put him in a litter box, he usually pees or poops. I don't think it's an aversion.
Either way, I took the door off the left side of one cabinet (litter is on the right). And I used cat attract in the other to test. The one in the bedroom has been left alone as that one is temp.
