I mean yes, it's the kind of movie that's an excuse for things to explode, for folks to shoot and wave swords at each other but...Lucien! Selene and Michael! Viktor! The rules that govern the Lychen and vampire societies! Is there fanfic

I had a similar reaction when I first saw Underworld in the cinema, although the look of the film was the main attraction: they threw out a lot of "canon" about vampires and werewolves to enhance the story. There actually was a substantial plot, unlike Blade &c., and as for characters...vampires with emotions! Lycans with brains and evil plots! Semi-canon slash and conflicted, vaguely incestuous Selene and Viktor! Before I get too enthusiastic, IMO the sequel isn't as good, despite an intriguing plot.
