Might as well join in...etherealzoeFebruary 2 2005, 03:31:55 UTC
Well, people keep telling me I'm an adult despite my protests, so I thought I might as well join in.
I'm torn between two arguments on this. On the one hand, I can understand the POV that two adults who have known each other so long, and who have been through as much as Albus and Minerva have (e.g., Grindelwald, Voldemort, protecting countless young wizards and witches) might jump right in and sleep together. Certainly, they would understand that happiness has to be grabbed while it can.
On the other hand. . . I sort of like the idea of Minerva teasing Dumbledore, which I conceive of as different than simply being a "tease".
The gown itself is not what I see as the issue. To me the issue is whether or not it's unrealistic that Albus and Minerva would engage in such explicit foreplay without going further. I suppose if I had to imagine an HP character that would be in control enough of her desires to stop after that, it probably would be Minerva. Plus, the degree of trust between the two parties would have a lot to do with it, I think. If Minerva trusted Albus less, she probably would not have felt comfortable sleeping in the same bed, yet alone going as far as they did and then stopping. The ability to be comfortable enough with a partner to indulge in some pleasure but stop at the point of discomfort (for whatever reason) is... well, damn enviable really. I think Albus (this characterization of Albus, anyway) would be fine with that, and so I can accept it in the context of the Albus/Minerva dynamic this author has set up.
Of course, bear in mind that I prefer to write darker!Albus/lustful!Minerva, so perhaps I'm not the best judge of realistic fluff. YMMV.
