I'd forgotten how bad 4th and 5th seasons are. Now I remember why I hesitated buying them for so long (I resisted until I got them both for $30 total). Fourth season is heartwrenching. It's just so sad. They're both sad. They're not together. Just when you think things might be okay, there's a wrench thrown in. A wrench with a name, and I have nothing against the character, because he's so sweet, but still.
Fifth season started out okay. Womb With a View is one of the best episodes. It's adorable. It's them - for the most part. Even "Yuk" wasn't so bad. It wasn't terrific; it wasn't remiscent of earlier seasons, but it was believable in that universe. But after that... after that is when things get really bad. I haven't even gotten to Annie yet. But it doesn't really matter. She was just another "nail in the coffin," so to speak. I was watching "The Color of Maddie" and "Plastic Fantastic Lovers" and I wonder what happened to cases like Clark Graydon or Paul McCain. Cybill slips into her southern accent a lot more, sounding more like herself than Maddie. I look at those two people who used to be Maddie and David and wonder who these people are. They look like them. They sound like them - sort of. But they're not them. It's like... what did people say during season 6 of GG? Pod!Luke? Yeah. This is Pod!Maddie and Pod!David. They're not recognizable at all. It's an entirely different show with entirely different characters.
I used to watch the show at night or in the mornings and bounce around with glee. Every episode used to end with me declaring "I love this show!!" Now, however? Something's missing. It might be Glenn's touch. It might be that everyone was tired. It's just not the same. And that's sad.
