Here I am again. This might be the last one, this might not be. I haven't decided yet. Interests meme!
witchofthedogs asked me about the following interests: glass houses, tapestry, candles, and roxanne bojarski.
Glass Houses. Another album name, and guess who the artist is? That's right. You guessed correctly. The first song on the album is "You May Be Right" which is such a fun song. I love that the album name is "Glass Houses" and the first song on the album starts off with the sound of glass breaking. "You may be right/I may be crazy/But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for." It's so... freeing. Then there's "Sometimes a Fantasy" which is kind of drunk dialing, but without the alcohol. A guy is lonely late at night, and he calls up the girl to appease his loneliness. "Don't Ask Me Why" is a great song. It's good advice, too. "Don't wait for answers/Just take your chances/Don't ask me why." I always liked "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me" even though it didn't speak to me as strongly as some of his other songs. There's a line that's almost as if it's a story; you could bring it up in conversation, quoting exactly, and it wouldn't sound strange. "It doesn't matter what they say in the papers because it's always been the same old scene. There's a new band in town but you can't get the sound from a story in magazine aimed at your average teen." Skip down a few tracks and you've got "Sleeping With the Television On." I love this song. It's about taking chances in life and love and if you keep your defenses up too far, you'll just end up alone.
Tapestry. Another album, but this time, it's Carole King. It's quite possibly her most well-known album, and it definitely contains some of my favorite songs of hers. "I Feel the Earth Move" is about falling in love, and how you're out of control when it happens. "So Far Away" is a plaintive song about long-distance. "It's Too Late" is sad in the life way. People grow apart, and then they try to hang on to what they had, but it just doesn't work. "Beautiful" is a song that I discovered, and I just love it. People don't know just how beautiful they are, and they're beautiful as they feel. Simple, but very sweet. "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" was a big hit for The Shirelles, but Carole wrote it (with Gerry Goffin) and it's just a song that's like will you respect me in the morning? It's important. "Natural Woman" is a song that of course, was popularized by Aretha Franklin, but Carole's version is slightly more personal. Less grand gesture, more private, almost. And the two songs I love the most are "You've Got a Friend" and "Where You Lead." They're very similar in the "just call me; I'll be there"sense, but they're pretty different, too. Of course, "Where You Lead" was used as a theme song, but I like the original even without that.
Candles. I love candles. I love scented candles. I love burning them. I love walking into a room and smelling the candle. I love how they look when they burn. I like the ambience that they give off.
Roxanne Bojarski is a character from American Dreams played by Vanessa Lengies. She was the typical "best friend" who spentmost of her time at the main character's house, with her family. But there's more to Rox than just being a best friend. In the three years we knew her, we got to see her grow up. We got to see her hurts and her elations. From making out with the "line guy" to get Meg and herself on Bandstand, to jumping in when she thinks it's right, to finding love. I miss her, and everyone else on that show. I was once inspired to write a short drabble fic for the show, and it was about Rox (and Luke).
Anyone else?
