Title: Fun with Evidence
Author: Adina Anne
Rating: G/K
Summary: With nothing better to do, Mike Logan fools around with some of the evidence.
A/N: This is why, even if you have a physics final at 8 AM, it is always better to write the story when it comes to you instead of waiting a day like I did. Not my best work but you should all survive.

“Barek, what color is this?” Logan held up a tube of deep red lipstick that had been in the victim’s bag.

“Cherry red. We’ll have to match it, but I think that’s the right shade.” She went back to looking in the victim’s day planner. Nothing. For the past seven weeks it looked like she had just sat indoors all day.

They looked around for several more minutes. Nothing stood out. They had a prime suspect and a motive, but not much else. And, excluding forensics, there wasn’t much more to do except go back over witness statements.

Two hours later they had matched the lipstick and all the other items of makeup. Most of them could have been bought from any drug store. Only the powder was worth looking into, but the company was closed for the weekend. Barek had checked.

“Barek.”

“Yeah?” She looked up from the last witness statement to find that Logan had taken a particular interest in some of the makeup. A second tube of lipstick was in his hand, the cap resting on the desk near him. She was glad to note the original tube was still in the evidence bag. “It’s a good thing you never worked on Vice. You’d have scared the hookers away.”

His smile, emphasized by the bright red, grew. He stood up and walked over to her. “This is why I love working with you, Barek.” Before she could do anything, he put a hand to the back of her head and leaned in. She glared at him as he pulled away. “Oh look at that. There are lips on your cheek.”

“One of these days someone should teach you to blot using a tissue and not my face.” She pulled a tissue out of her desk and started trying to wipe it off.

“Don’t get rid of it!” He moved to stop her but she stood up and backed away from him. “You don’t want people to know I like you?”

She tilted her head down a little and looked up at him from under furrowed eyebrows, her look extremely indignant. “Not with lipstick.” She turned and left him alone in the bullpen. With any luck when she returned he wouldn’t have figured out how to put on the rest of it.
