I looove the face paint, what tribe is that from?? what traditions do they use that face paint for?
You look absolutely lite up and excited to have your face painted.
cuuute orchestra director, id hit that.
the first tree with the birdie is adorable and reminds me of lion king.
the impalas are so cute!! I don't think I've ever seen a picture of them.
i love the stripes on the gnu too!
i love how you call every bird "birdie" its cute
how long was your safari? those trucks look so cool, how far out did you go in the national park? did they tell you that national parks get dangerous at night?? lol maybe I just think they would be because I am afraid of the dark...
oooh the hippo picture is SO cute!
i didn't know impalas came in different colors...lol but true!
did you see the cheetah run?
warthogs are as ugly as their name.
i want to see a herd of elephants like you did and how cute are they in the water!

it must suck to get a drink when you are a giraffe.
i love the pictures of the...atlantic ocean on the western cape...just breathtaking.
they have pequins in africa!!!! aww that momma and baby pequin are so cute
that township looks like things that american's don't believe exsist anymore because we are so wealthy.
its interesting you saw the row where nelson mandela stayed. that brings to my mind so many questions and I wonder how many people who did "hard labor" were simply trying to make a change in south africa.
love the photos maggi, it looks like you had a great trip. lol a little late...but...yeah i enjoyed it.
rachel, you are RIDICULOUS! i think this is the longest comment i've had like..ever. you need to get more sleep, haha.
in regards to the questions:
> I looove the face paint, what tribe is that from?? what traditions do they use that face paint for?
I have no idea. Some lady at the restaurant just started painting our faces, haha. Maybe if you have another fit of insomnia you can look it up and let me know!
> You look absolutely lite up and excited to have your face painted.
Thanks, though it may have been the South African wine that was flowing freely that night.
> cuuute orchestra director, id hit that.
He's gone :(
> the first tree with the birdie is adorable and reminds me of lion king.
haha, our tour group started singing hakuna matata while out on safari.
> the impalas are so cute!! I don't think I've ever seen a picture of them.
in South Africa they call impalas NIDS (not another damn impala)!
> i love the stripes on the gnu too!
gnus/water buffalo seems to be all over the place.
> i love how you call every bird "birdie" its cute
thanks :)

we were on safari from sunrise to sundown since we were only there one day. we went a pretty good distance but the park is the size of massachusettes so you can only go so far in one day, haha. they do have night safaris but they cost considerably extra so i didn't go. they can be dangerous at night so they require every guest to be inside the place they are living (which is surrounded by an electrical fence) by sundown.
> oooh the hippo picture is SO cute!
i love their little ears!
> i didn't know impalas came in different colors...lol but true!
yup.
> did you see the cheetah run?
yup, ran right in front of our car and started chasing an impala, though he didn't get it.
> warthogs are as ugly as their name.
agreed.
> i want to see a herd of elephants like you did and how cute are they in the water!
they were getting it on.
> you saw baby dumbos!
one of my favorite parts!!
> it must suck to get a drink when you are a giraffe.
haha yes, we got lucky to see them drink because it puts them in such a vulnderable position. we had to be absolutely silent.
> i love the pictures of the...atlantic ocean on the western cape...just breathtaking.
me too, i want to go back.
> they have pequins in africa!!!! aww that momma and baby pequin are so cute
yes! they actually naturally migrated there.
> that township looks like things that american's don't believe exsist anymore because we are so wealthy.
i can't even begin to explain my experience in the townships. we really take how fortunate we are for granted every day.
> its interesting you saw the row where nelson mandela stayed. that brings to my mind so many questions and I wonder how many people who did "hard labor" were simply trying to make a change in south africa.
i thought about you while i was there. i knew it is some place you would love to visit.
phew. i'm glad you go through these fits of insomnia infrequently :)
I looked at all of your Africa Pictures
