The melons were surprisingly effective, weren't they? It isn't much, but I'm glad that I now know my name. I'm an Ootori, and my family is, as I'd surmised, wealthy. We own and manage hospitals in Japan, which does seem like an interesting profession to me, as hospital management could hardly be easy. Still, perhaps it gives me something to do here. If I'm to eventually manage this business, then it would be good for me to study areas such as medicine, business, and mathematics; there doesn't seem to be any sense in wasting the opportunity.

Perhaps it's strange; I remember quite clearly my family name and family business, but the actual names and faces of my family members are still a complete blank. Obviously I have a family, but what they're like or even how many family members I have will remain a mystery. I wonder what it means, that I would remember a detail like this first?

At any rate, some of my fears are assuaged. There's something about the memory that feels real enough to me that I am comfortable at least partially trusting it. We'll see what other melons I can break.

I'll have to find a way to return the favor to Haruhi; it's a bit naive, to go around telling other people the melons help you recover memory when there's a finite amount, but it's a useful quality. Still, there's no point hiding it now.

It seems I was able to break one. Haruhi, I'm grateful. How have you fared?
