The terribly boring but unfortunately essential information shall be summed up in one sentence; my name is Chasity, I'm from Michigan in the United States, and I'm eighteen years old.
I do have some preferences when it comes to books, which may be paradoxial when I explain my writing. I like classical fiction because I admire the depth of description and think it's a shame that most modern literature seems to gloss over this aspect of writing and will leave nothing of substance for future generations. The only genre that I claim has been done better back then was romantic fiction though I think it's easily expected considering the difference in community standards.
Non-fiction holds a place in my heart because I find something incredibly touching about reading about things that have actually happened. Especially human experience; if you're going to relate to a character, doesn't it help to know that person actually exists? I do have a problem with biographies, though, because they're a bit presumptuous. Autobiographies or autobiographal fiction, however, are right up my alley.
I like historical fiction and period films for the setting, both social and physical. I like fantasy that does not require the memorization of an entire new world and therefore prefer most forms of magical realism. I enjoy political thrillers and religious novels that bring the spiritual aspects of life into the harsh light or day or up against science and human condition.
In terms of writing, I am loathe to put myself into a particular category. I dislike restriction of any sort whether it is on who people say that I am or what people think that I write. My writing does tend to be long -- in both ficticious writing and entries about my day -- and extremely descriptive. Lately, I've been experimenting with many different genres and styles by writing short stories from prompts. I've also decided to still work on fanfiction because the experience in putting sentences together and developing a plot are still valuable.
My problem as a young writer is a lack of experience in life to write about, so I generally value interesting conversation and entries from livejournal friends as much as skilled writing. I am also tackling the issue of finding ambition to write when I find a future filled with simply observing unappealing.
I have a deep appreciation for all other sorts of art. I love to look at paintings, drawings, sketchings, comic strips, and photography. I like to see live performances of any kind and appreciate music. The latter artistic talent I even dabble in; I play a low brass instrument left over from high school and am learning to play the violin.
So, if anyone is interested, please comment and I look forward to getting to know some interesting people!
