A Name: Michael
Location: Upstate NY
Ideologies/Politics: I'm socialist. I've gone back and forth between various socialist ideologies. I don't really find it necessary to adhere to one single socialist ideology, recognizing the reality of equifinality, and the necessity of a flexible socialist movement relevant to contemporary society. Besides, I'm really not all that interested in debating Marxist theory. I'm more interested in rolling up my sleeves and trying to find ways to incite change in the real world, not the theoretical one.
Personality/Background: I'm an extremely laid back, easy going person which can be misleading given how deeply passionate I can be about social issues. I'm currently in my senior year of college, studying to be a social worker. I've lived all but a few months of my life in upstate New York which may be one of the primary contributors to my excruciating wanderlust. I have a manic relationship with society, fluctuating between extreme interest in sculpting the my country and extreme indifference and a desire to drop out. People who don't take to me typically describe me as "off" or "strange" and people who do take to me most often describe me as "mysterious" or "deep" but I think I'm pretty easy to get along with.
Interests: I'm very interested in issues of diversity, pluralism and inclusion and their less desirable counterparts. I'm a socialist because I think it is a necessary step in advances the equality and individual worth of all individuals. I'm very interested in issues of gender relations, gay rights and race relations.
I'm also obsessed with music. I spend quite a bit of my time researching new genres and musicians to listen to.
And finally I am VERY interested in the outdoors. I often go on explorations and camping trips into the Adirondacks. And I have an interest in the regional First Nations cultures of New York and Northeastern Canada. Like most socialists probably are, I'm fascinated by history.
