Thing I have learned about family and just had to come to accept is that someone, somewhere, will always figure out how to inject drama into whateverthefuck you're doing.
Take my family for example: My mother would happily come over every single day if she could. My husband says he never wants to see her again. Ever. My mother says that if we ever leave her alone for Xmas, she'll commit suicide. Fucking hell. And I just want people to be nice and get along and not be annoying instead of bitching to me about how much they hate each other and how unfair it is that I ask them to make concessions to try to prevent or diffuse conflicts.
Long story short, yes, that sounds assholish, but with family and especially with people who aren't family, it's probably best just to try to be cooperative.

It's amazing how families find your buttons and then just push them until their fingers fall off. Then they push them with their toes. Can't people just be nice to each other?
