had my midterm review today, and everything went well. midterm reviews are so much more fun than final reviews
so now that all that stress is gone, i can really just be plain old PISSED OFF about the election. it still hasn't really sunk in. one moment vince and i were making plans to go downtown to the rally, the next i'm crying and loudly pounding mouse keys as i autoCAD. the only consolation is that pennsylvania voted for kerry. i think even schuylkill county was moderately in favor of kerry. which is ridiculous, in and of itself, since it used to be such a democratic county. but the people there now are what i think most people are talking about when they say "living poor, voting rich." i have this early memory of asking my mom what a republican was, and she said only rich people were republican and that's why we didn't know any of them. democrats in pottsville were always the sort of upper-working class elite...the friendly guys who knew everybody who were in unions and fought against the man. but now when i go back there, i'm struck by the kind of walmart-types who i see everywhere--rude, fear-fueled hatred-driven (not to mention NASCAR-watching, and all those cliches). i'm sure it's these people who are voting for bush. i have this vague idea that this phenomenon has something to do with the information era...like maybe 20 years ago, the working class was motivated by local interests, like unions, unemployment, taxes, etc. but the republican party has really capitalized on the relatively new ability to get a message out to EVERYbody. so that now the working class is voting based on "moral" issues, whatever the hell that is supposed to mean, rather than the things that really affect them. it's really a representation issues--whatever can be represented on TV can be ingrained into peoples heads ....well that's just a half-thought
god i'm just so frustrated...i just want to scream it out loud to the rest of the country. it's weird that all thoroughout the election, it seemed like it was bush vs. kerry. but once the voting started it was really us vs. them. and that's kinda the dark side of democracy.
i'm going to new york this weekend. maybe i can get my frustrations out there and throw molotov cocktails at something. not that cambridge is exactly republican. i think the vote was something like 85% for kerry. and the only republicans here are probably business school students.
maybe i'll run over to beacon hill and see if john kerry wants to go out and riot in the streets with me.
going to go pout now.
haven't slept more than 3 hours/nght all week
and it may *snow* tomorrow!!!! nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
