Lesson today

Aug 10, 2010 20:35

Was a complete downpour outside. And normally I love riding in the rain, but today he was all jazzed up, as well. Lots of fun for the 'no, get his head lower, and more relaxed.' lolol

So, canter plie first, then shallow counter canter, then 3/4 line counter canter. Try to keep him relaxed.

Weight on knees, not feet. Feet puts the weight too far forward. If weight is on knees, then lower leg can move back to the fat part of the horse, and squish the horse forward(the horse wants to fill in the opening left). That way, the horse is literally in front of your leg.

Neck stretching. Bit at point of shoulder, and neck stretched, body relaxed. Keep the legs on (on the fat) to keep the forward movement. Reward with a halt, then a complete stretch at the walk. Then trot...canter...trot...without changing the stretchy.
Canter-trot transition on right mild outside shoulder roll, and keep the leg on. It gets too abrupt because he really wants to canter/halt (which is easier), and my leg is just keeping him at trot. So, focus on the *trot*.

Also, tired now. And muddy. Elle gave me doe eyes about having to walk through the mud, so I let them all in the front door, instead. I'm such a sucker.
