Thoughts: Battle of the Favorites
Whenever I read a new manga or get into a new TV series, I am determined to find my favorite character. Does this urge strike other people? It's like a contest with all of the characters aiming for first place. Sometimes I start off liking one character and then change as the plot evolves, but then feel guilty for replacing my former first.
Usually the main character is sort of a homefry favorite character that I love because I can't resist. If I don't like the main character, it's a sign that I don't like the series as a whole. Furuba seems to be an exception, because I don't particularly care about Tohru-kun or Yuki-san, but I still squee on the series.
Take Bleach for example. (Which is, consequently, my new favorite manga and one of the best I've ever read.) At first my favorite was Orihime-chan because she's so durn cute but is smart in school. Kind of like an ideal me! Then I went for Chad because he's also sharp as a tack and generally BA. As I get deeper into the SS Arc, it's soooo hard to choose between so many awesome shinigami. Kisuke-san and Yoruichi were dominating because they're such an irresistable pairing and because Yoruichi is BLACK!!! You don't know how many years I've waited to see a sexy lead black lady in manga. She's my role model. But recently Ichimaru-san and Kira-kun are invading my mind, mostly because they're soooo hot so slash. Kira being the ultimate in angsty, uber-uke-ness.
