It'd certainly be interesting to see how this went, considering they were both spellcasters.]

[He glances his opponent over. The boy isn't terribly impressive-looking, but appearances are often deceiving. What's that he's holding - a flail? No, some sort of ball-and-stick game. An odd choice for a weapon. He wonders if there must be some sort of gimmick to it, like Anise's doll.]
Let's not keep the crowd waiting, now.

Still, the Colonel has a point. Genis waits for the MC to call "Three! Two! One! START!" before jumping back to the side of the arena as he begins to cast his spell arte.
Come on, come... he just hopes he casts faster than the Colonel or it's game over.]

O mighty explosion. Energy Blast!

Gentle winds, gather before me and transform into blades of air. Cyclone!

Grant mine enemies a final rest. Flame Burst!
[Of course, his opponent could have already been halfway through chanting a verse by the time he's able to cast. Whether this one hits or not is unknown.]

[It thankfully negates most of the flames, but Genis knows he's fighting a losing battle this time. Jumping back to cast better, he curses under his breath before going at it again. Third time has to be the charm!]

[An idea starts to take form. Instead of simply dodging Genis' next attack, Jade continues to run toward him. As he closes in, he draws his spear.]

He's really not a fighter. Not in the sense of these Coliseum bouts. Should he---end it quickly and just let this continue? Maybe. He'd feel bad about "going easy" but it wasn't like he didn't have other things to do.
So he stops to catch his breath while running. That, of course, wouldn't end up well for him.]

[He plants the butt of the spear on the ground and leans against it. With his left hand, he pushes his glasses back into place.]
You know, there wouldn't be any shame in admitting defeat right now.

No shame, yes, but what happened to giving these people a "good show?" [Read between the lines, Jade: he doesn't mind losing as long as the people seem to like how he lost.]

[With that said, he charges in and closes the gap between them. With extra care to not hit Genis with the pointy end of his spear, Jade catches the front of his shirt and tosses him upward.]
[There isn't enough lingering mana in the air to make the second part of his strike arte more painful, but there's enough to make it flashy.]
Goring Hell!

NEXT TIME, HE'S NOT SAYING THAT. EVER. 8( Hello, healer's tent!]
