Dear Santa. Admiral. Whichever you are.

I recently found this book in the library. Let me share with you, Santa, and you as well, Barge. It's called There's No Such Thing as a Chanukah Bush, Sandy Goldstein. It a heartwarming tale about being Jewish during Christmastime, featuring a curious little girl, a wise grandfather, and acceptance. Awh, see ( Read more... )

I'm not Jewish (is that a Roundworld religion?), but I couldn't agree more. I'm glad someone else wrote similar objections.

Because I imagine others'd agree just as much, just don't have the balls to put it in a public letter. I admire that kind of backbone.

If by Roundworld you mean Earth, then yeah, it is, though it's a bit more than just a religion.

It's less backbone and more that I'm just a little fed up with things.

Oh? I didn't realise humans had things like that.

I think you've got every right to be. I was fed up when this kind of thing started.

Humans have all sorts of things. We're all very, very different. All the colors of a rainbow and then some.

Except, under all of that, you're achingly similar too.

Talking about our bone structures?

I'm talking about your general attitudes towards some very basic things, actually. No matter what you believe differently, they do follow patterns.

Like what?

Well, for example, everything you talk about in that letter is a form of worship, isn't it?

That's a very human thing. You share a lot, really. Maybe it's only something you can see from the outside.

Is it a form of worship? How so?

I mean, all the different things you talk about, are about different ways of worshipping either the same, or slightly different, gods.

But the fact you actually worship your gods is very human.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, just that it's a general theme of humanity; finding something to worship.

I guess so. We're a curious bunch. We want to know stuff. We like to ask questions, and when the questions we asked can't be answered, we like to explain it away somehow.

You know, hence G-d and religion and stuff.

It's true of most humans, I find. No matter of your different traditions, you've all got similarities, in the end.

actuallyagolem December 18 2010, 23:36:54 UTC
Because we're human, but that's where the similarities kind of end.

That's quite a big similarity, though. I consider myself a brother with every other Dwarf. No matter how much our approaches might differ.

[Well, except those pesky women dwarfs. :/]

I don't have that kind of kinship with every single human on Earth.
