you end up like an icecube sinking down to the bottom, so we do what we must to survive

if it was a liquid you'd take
1.5 ccs of sanity, if
it was a liquid it would be
terra cotta and sage,
green-marbled and malevolent,
and if it was a shot
you'd knock it back just as hard.

So, the Push Stars are one of my favorite bands, and they are criminally under-exposed and under-appreciated. Apparently they don't have much of a following outside the Boston area (although Wikipedia tells me their songs have been in some movies? Most of which look pretty bad?). They opened, for many years, for Great Big Sea when they came to town, and apparently toured with Matchbox Twenty. I started listening to them because Chris Trapper, their frontman and main songwriter, co-wrote a lot of songs on GBS's "Sea of No Cares", which I really like. Unfortunately, they're little-known enough that I had to buy most of their discography off of online stores - ie, it's copyright protected. The only ones I have on CD are Paint the Town and Live, From the Cradle to the Stage. I'm posting some of my favorites of theirs. A lot of the ones from the live album have dorky interview excerpts at the beginning of the track, but please don't let that turn you off.

Lucky Sevens (this is one of my favorite songs ever, so if you only download one, make it this one!)
I've taken shape like an angel falls from grace

Dream Came Down
my great escape is in your touch

Moving Target
aim if you want, but you'll never hit a moving target like me

Paint the Town
we're two stray dogs sitting on the front steps, sipping up the last drop of night that's left

Lack of Motion
we got no time for getting sentimental, we got too many goals, so much potential

Wild Irish Rose
and every time I see you dance, my wild Irish rose, I wanna jump up on stage with you, I wanna give you my clothes, and, let the devil take my soul

And just for fun, have some of the ones Trapper co-wrote on Sea of No Cares.

Sea of No Cares
Clearest Indication
Own True Way (one of my other favorites ever!)

music passage, braincrazies
