- Pack light! You will be carrying your luggage everywhere, so pack some jeans/shorts and one nice outfit and lots of tees. You will end up wearing the same otufits a lot even if you pack more and most hotels&motels have laundry rooms.
-be kind to your roommates! Respect those who want to sleep and if you are a night owl, use headphones. Drama with castmates can be avoided this way.
-take your vitamins!!!
-work out whenever you can or do yoga in your room, it really sets the day nicely and your body will adjust to the stress of the show, so to keep in shape you gotta workout.
- check out local gorcery stores for food, in lots of areas the only have grocery stores or fast food and fast food gets nasty quick, while most grocery stores have deli's where you can have healthier options. If you can go in with castmates and get a cooler where you can store fruit and other food to save $$$
- careful with cast bonding drinking sessions before a show! It will ruin your voice and eat your paycheck, stick to one or two drinks only and drink lots of water!
-with facebook and phones and stuff homesickness should not be a problem. You can keep in touch with your friends no problem. One friend of mine did an international tour and kept a blog and it was so fun to read of his adventures, so that's a fun idea for your friends to keep in touch...
-if you have a kindle/e-book or laptop with you life will be better.
-get out there when you can and enjoy yourself! You are going to see some amazing places and the local culture is awesome!

Especially agree with the last suggestion - I did too many tours where I holed up in my hotel or dressing room. It's no fun and only increases the feeling of isolation.
And yeah, I wish they had Facebook back in ancient times when I was on the road...I missed my cat a lot!
