Myrtle Beach

I just got back from a week Myrtle Beach. I had lots of fun. I beachwalked every morning but one, and that morning was because I was too sunburned. Our first full day there, I was in the ocean all morning and in the pool all afternoon and then in the ocean some more after that. I got so sunburned that I had to stay out of the sun the next couple days. My favorite beach activity was boogie boarding, which I had never done before. There were two boogie boards at the apartment, and my youngest brother bought one too, so between me, my brothers, my sister-in-law, her sister, her nephew, and my mom, we had three boogie boards to share. The best boogie boarding was last night. There were so many waves because of the wind, and they were easy to catch. The undertow was bad though. I got knocked around by quite a few big waves.

I had fun bird watching too. I saw gulls, pigeons, sandpipers, sanderlings, and a tern on the beach. I need to look them up to see what kinds. I saw a cute gull take a bath in a tide pool, and I had a pigeon eat cracker crumbs out of my hand. I also fed the birds some stale tortillas. I saw a pretty white egret at Barefoot landing, and I saw one catch a fish at Broadway at the Beach. They had cute ducks and ugly fish at Broadway at the Beach that people could buy pellets to feed them.

I shopped at several shopping centers too. My favorite stores were all the candy stores at Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach, Pepper Palace, both locations of the Christmas Mouse, the Book Warehouse (just at a little shopping center that isn't touristy), the Fudgery, the purple store, The store where you could build customized RC cars, and a neat toy store in the old mall. I had fun sampling all the hot sauces at Pepper Palace. They had one called Death by Salsa, and they had sauces with Ghost peppers in them. I also went to another hot sauce store that I don't remember the name of, but it had funny names for a lot of the sauces.

I didn't really buy much. I bought a Christmas ornament at the Christmas Mouse that was a gift for someone at church, and I bought a pound of taffy that I shared with all the family. I also bought a cupcake, and a jelly belly soft drink on the day I went to Broadway at the Beach which was probably my favorite shopping center. I bought some duck feed there too.

I met a lady in the old mall who rehabs sea gulls. I was able to swap bird stories with her. She told me a lot I didn't know about gulls, and I told her about owls. I told her about Dudley and Jamie Bond, and she told me about her non-releaseable Herring Gull. She also had two cute dogs in her store. Her Manchester Terrier was mean, but she had a sweet Chinese Crested that I petted.

I met a cute dog in a fabric store too. He was a French Bulldog named Napoleon, and he gave me a few dog kisses. I think blowing on their noses must be a signal because Dixie gives me dog kisses when I do that too. He really liked me.

I played lots of cards. I learned how to play Go Fish. I also played four way war with my brothers, and my SIL's nephew. I also learned the counting Solitaire game, and I actually won it once. The family played lots of Knockout. I won a few times too.

We had some awesome food. I wasn't tracking so I probably gained some weight, but Dad is an awesome cook so I don't care. He made homemade chicken and noodles one night. I haven't had those in forever. We had tacos one night, and pork roast another night. I think we had turkey and mashed potatoes one night too with dressing balls. Dad and I were talking about dinners on the way home, and I can't believe I forgot that one.

I read three books on vacation too. One was about what would happen to the earth if any astronomical calamities happened. They had things like asteroid impact scenarios, nearby supernova, bad solar flares, death of the sun, nearby black holes, and other stuff like that. The second book was about a rescue of 500 downed American airmen in Yugoslavia during WW2. They were going to bomb a Nazi oil field in Romania and were shot down. The last book was a historical fiction that took place in bible times where Lazarus was the main character.
