Mount and Blade:First Entry

Jul 14, 2009 11:49

It was sunny, of course it doesn't rain often enough with this accursed drought these summer months.  The heat was enough to scorch the hair from my horses flank.  It was a day that would get the blood boiling to a dangerous degree, and my blood was already boiling over.  That loutish prick.  If I never see him again it will be too soon.  I suppose I am getting ahead of myself.  This is the first entry after all.  So today I finally arrived in the mainland of Caldera.  Not an hour away from a small training field south of Jelkala.
I'd heard tales of roving bandits and the people of the Steppe who could be ferocious.  So i decided to test my mettle and see what I could remember from my younger days.  The man there came to the same conclusion as everyone else always did and put me up against a few novice fighters.  He took away my sword, rusty and old as it was I suppose I could still kill with it, and in it's place, he gave me a staff.  I wasn't great with it, but I knew how to use it effectively, but when he called over a man with a wooden sword and shield I voiced my complaint.  My pleas were cut off when the sword wielding bastard caught me across the cheek with the sword.
It may have been just wood, but it hurt like all hells.  I swung my stick but he blocked it easy, then jabbed me in the stomach.  i backed off a few feet and glared at him.  He chuckled and raised his sword, then charged me.  The fool, I returned the jab to the stomach as he charged, had it been a sharp lance he would have impaled himself, then I proceeded to beat him over the head with it until he surrendered.  The next few battles ended with my victory, I was getting the hang of it and soon, they just couldn't touch me.  Of course the guy running the thing had to throw in a new surprise, he gave me a cheap shield and a wooden sword, probably the same one I had beaten away at earlier, and told me I'd be fighting a new group of better trained fighters.  I wiped them all out no sweat, so he moved me up a rank to fight his experts, and he took my sword and shield and gave me the stick again.  And of course, the first expert was armed with a huge two handed wooden broadsword.  I swear it was larger than me.  I took a beating, but I won, the expert guarded everywhere except his precious privates, one swift jab and then several more smacks to victory.  I figured I was pretty good, I had beaten every guy who had fought me, not a single loss, so I was cocky.  Can you blame me?
So the trainer says he's got three more guys to fight, his personal trainees, and I say, let's do it.  First two were a breeze.  The third though...He was good, but he was cocky too.  We both started with the two handed swords, it may have been wood, but I swear it was fifty pounds.  I go at him, and he just sidesteps and slaps my ass with the broadside of the sword.  That dirty perverted bastard, so I go in quick, sneaky like, with a fake to the left but a swing to the right.  He just ducked and, you won't believe this, tore the shirt right down the middle with his sword.  It was one of my favorites too, Mistress Aurora made that for me before circumstances intervened.  I was pissed.  I go at him and by god, he slapped my ass, not with the sword, with his hand!
So I try a new tactic, I charge, swing and when he knocked the sword away I barreled into him.  I may be small, but I can handle people larger than me, I had enough practice in the gutters back home.  He fell onto the ground and I basically just tossed the sword.  My feet were my weapons.  It was brilliant.  Of course I'm no longer allowed back at the training compound, but it was fun anyway.  As I was saddling up to leave, the guy came up to me and asked me my name.  I gave him my family name and rode away.  He decided to follow me, like some mongrel on the street.
Just for clarification, that wasn't the bastard I was talking about earlier.  Oh no, the bastard I was talking about I met in Jelkala.
I'll write about that later, right now I believe I have some excitement coming up.\
