Found this in Chord magazine, and really related to it.
"Music and scenes have been consistently developing all throughout the nation of our friendly northern neighbors. I love that, despite the difficulties, Canadian music thrives to the point where music fans globally take notice. Standing your ground is not the easiest thing to do. Making someone take heed is not a simple accomplishment.
Often we discover new bands only to realize they’re not in fact new, but rather have been around a number of years. All the while, we think they’ve popped up out of nowhere. The real fact is that they simply didn’t give up. They worked hard, got in the van, and played their hearts out. They probably worried about rent and food and had van troubles. They most likely played crappy shows and still kept moving forward. They went through it all and held their ground to do what it is they love most in this world.
In other instances, some entertainers may have had to hop a plane to Africa to get their heads straight after the industry fills them with indistinguishable lies or facts. In either case, it is a very difficult test of will and character to brave the storms. Somewhere along the line, goals and desires get skewed and altogether mixed up. I applaud the musicians and entertainers who have the courage to stand and fight for what they want. The ones who have the wherewithal to remain fixed on one point, focus on it, and attain it with undying dedication and determination.
It is not easy on any level. In the beginning of a given path, it may be tempting to give in and give up, since there is seemingly not much invested. But the investments are there, ineffable as they might be. They’re investments of the heart and soul and personal commitment. There aint’ no half-steppin’ in this biz. You either go big or go home."
