I'm freakin awesome!

Or at least, I'm sufficiently awesome.

I like to make nothing from a box or can. So I made homemade marinara sauce tonight. I put meat into it though, which I think makes it not marinara, but I'm not sure what you'd call it so I'm sticking with marinara with smoked sausage.

5 cloves of diced garlic
1 medium onion cut into thin wedges
1 green bell pepper chopped to half inch squares
1 red bell pepper chopped to half inch squares
2 tablespoons of basil paste (ideally, this would be a half cup of shredded fresh basil leaves, but you deal with what you can buy)
2 15oz cans of fire roasted tomatoes
1 8 oz can of tomato paste
3 tablespoons Extra virgin olive oil (trying desperately not to call it EVOO)
1 tablespoon of chopped fresh oregano (yeah they had oregano but not basil)
1/2 pound of turkey smoked sausage sliced and quartered

Blend tomato ingredients and basil with about a half cup of water in blender. Then add olive oil to stock pot and bring to a low-medium heat and add the garlic and allow the garlic to cook slowly in the oil. Before the garlic turns brown, add the remaining vegetables to the stock pot and allow to sautée for approximately 5 minutes. Then add the tomato sauce, along with the oregano, sausage, salt, and pepper. Bring mixture to boil and then reduce to simmer for about 20 minutes. Serve over whole grain pasta. Try not to cry.
