You can skip.. and I highly recommend on reading.. especially.. if you like the gorgeous Viking.... but if you are a Bill fan.. you will be disappointed....... BAD Bill!! I loved the Jason parts in the latest episodes.. He is just charming....and funny..... I am done with Maryann too.. she was definitly not a main stay in the book... and Eric.. well do I say more.....'they are delicious', 'teacups'.... and Pam... I really wish they would expand her character... "(maryann) she owes me a pair of shoes" classic....
*lol* Yeah, the Sookie books are much more about the "main" characters. But they're really fun, especially once Eric starts showing up more ^___________^
The 2nd book is, at least in some storylines, totally different from the show. Some things in the show don't happen until book 5 or 6 (which I haven't read yet either), some don't happen in the books at all.
The second season, for the most part, have branched off from the second book. There are similar plotlines (like Maryann and going to rescue a captured vamp, that sort of thing), but there are a LOT of differences. So I'd read it, personally! I'm about to start the latest one. I was kind of left going "eh" with the last one, but we'll see how this one goes.
I loved Jason in this episode too because you know he was totally asking questions about Sam and his shifting that we've all sort of wondered about--admit it! :)

I've read all the Sookie Stackhouse books :) The second book is definitely way different to the show so I'm really recommending to read it!
