Contains EVERY SPOILER EVER. DO NOT SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU.
Obviously this is my own PERSONAL opinion, so no belly aching that I left so and so out or put too much so and so in. All in good fun!!
I was going to make this my 25 Top BSG Moments, but had ENTIRELY too many. Hence the odd number :D
43. We find out Six has her own imaginary Gaius - Downloaded
Despite how utterly frakked up their relationship is, I somehow find it heartwarming that each of them has their own imaginary version of each other hanging out in their heads. It's almost as if a conniving narcissist and a robot can really love after all.
42. Chief & Co present new fighter plane to Roslin - Flight of the Phoenix
Two reasons I love this scene: 1. People coming together for a common cause makes me happy, especially when it's to take a step in a new direction. 2. Look how far Roslin's come from the day of the attacks!! They love her!
41. Lee takes control of the CIC on Pegasus - Captain's Hand
Lee's surprise at being handed the reins shows how modest he is, and his ability to take charge immediately shows how good he is at what he does. What a guy!
40. No more Mr. Nice Gaius - Six Degrees of Separation
Quite possibly the best line of the entire series; I am always amazed at how Gaius is often the villain and comic relief, all at the same time.
39. Kara's promise to come back for Anders - The Farm
This is the first time we ever really saw Starbuck being vunerable. Until this point we weren't quite sure if she was too much of a badass to really care about someone for realsies, but Anders coaxed it out of her. Bonus: This scene contains my absolute favorite track on all the BSG soundtracks, "A Promise to Return."
38. Starbuck and Helo make a stop at her old apartment - Valley of Darkness
You know how when you were little, if you saw a teacher outside school, and you couldn't believe they wore normal clothes, or had a husband, or bought toilet paper or something?? To me, this is what this scene in Starbuck's Caprican apartment is. It's the first time we see the "real" Kara Thrace.
We didn't know how she was in her civilian life...this scene is like going through someone's medicine cabinet. It also contains the Phillip Glass song "Metamorphosis Five" which is gorgeous and perfect for this moment.
37. Kara and Anders get hitched - Unfinished Business
As much as I love Kara, she effs up. A LOT. This moment between herself, Anders, and Lee is a PRIME example of how she is an expert in the art of self-destruction. Not to mention the look on Lee's face is priceless.
36. Chief freaks out, beats up Cally - Lay Down Your Burdens Part I
Granted, you either loved or hated the fact that he did this to her depending on how you feel about Cally in general. However, this scene holds much more significance in that Chief, the guy you can trust, the stable one, just LOSES it. Of course we understand why now, but at the time it was very disconcerting to think that he was losing his marbles.
35. Gaius kills Crashdown on Kobol - Fragged
Not only a dramatic death, but a gorgeous example of how Gaius is so very slippery; he seems like a hero because he "saved" Cally from Crashdown's lunacy, but in reality he shot him because he was afraid of Six's prophecy that someone would turn against the group. He just didn't want to be the one that got hurt.
34. Helo and Tyrol save Boomer from being raped by Pegasus crew - Pegasus
What a crazy storyline these guys have - they love the same woman, but she's not really the same woman...only she is. Oh and one is dead. Sort of. I love this moment because these two are so noble and SO pissed that anyone would try and hurt Sharon they both go crazy and end up killing a guy. Talk about knight in shining armor, Sharon's got TWO of them.
33. Kacey - Precipice
I still don't know what to make of Kacey and Leoben and his insane mind games, but this entire thing was just CRAZY. Poor Kara.
32. Gaeta is revealed as the Rebel's informant right as he's about to be airlocked - Collaborators
Gaeta is such a great character. He is complicated and layered and yet not a bad guy or a hero-type, he's just a guy trying to get by. This moment is significant because he finally got his props, but also because it was the reason why Tigh's group of interrogators finally give up on their little quest to right the wrongs that were done. Everyone screwed up, and they knew it after the incident with Gaeta.
31. Papadama and Lee are reunited after Bill has been told Lee died in battle - Mini-Series
I have a soft spot for Bill and Lee, and this is only one of the many moments they share that reminds us that despite all the fighting, the disagreements, and whatever else goes on between them, they're still just a guy and his son, and they're scared to lose each other.
30. Leoben gets airlocked - Flesh and Bone
Leoben is one creepy mofo, and this shot of him in slow motion being sucked out into open space is amazing, especially since Roslin dreamed it before Leoben was ever even on the ship.
29. Gaeta stabs Gaius...in the neck...with a PEN - Taking a Break from All Your Worries
This was just one of those great OMGWTF moments on this show. Like GAETA, YOU BADASS!! And we still don't know what Gaius whispered in his ear to provoke this, do we? I think it involved some storyline the writers threw out before they could develop it, but WOW.
28. Starbuck and Anders engage in some close talking and Pyramid - Resistance
Now that's what I call foreplay.
27. Roslin and Adama smoke a doobie - Unfinished Business
I always love seeing higher-ups acting like normal people. Especially when it involves giggle fits and pornstaches. &hearts
26. BILLY ;_; - Sacrifice
Ohhhh, Billy. Dee didn't deserve you. You have lots of fangirls hoping you're the Final Cylon just so they can see that earnest little face of yours again.
25. Starbuck toasts all the dead pilots - Scar
Sometimes it's hard to think of these pilots the way you'd think of pilots in real life. But just because they're fighting to defend the whole human RACE as opposed to a country doesn't make them any different. That's why I love this scene. Starbuck toasts all the fallen pilots, and I can't watch it without getting all farklempt. It's something right out of Band of Brothers.
To Bee-bee. Jo-jo. Riley. Beano. Dipper. Flat Top. Chuckles. Jolly. Crashdown. Shepherd. Dash. Flyboy. Stepchild. Puppet. Fireball...
To all of 'em.
So say we all.
24. Kara and Lee's boxing match - Unfinished Business
I think it's safe to say you've never seen two people with so much sexual tension actually pummeling each other's faces. This fight was amazingly done, super significant, and the way it was cut between the flashback scenes is what makes Unfinished Business my favorite BSg episode ever.
23. Kara comes home with the arrow of Apollo - Home Part I
So Starbuck finally shows up with the arrow, and everyone is glad she is safe...
But she's got company...
And it leads to a rather....sticky situation. This scene is awesome. So much going on. Plus Starbuck and Lee make out a little. Nooch.
22. Tigh and Adama reunite after New Caprica rescue - Exodus Part II
Tough men + best friends + horribly emotional circumstances = good television. Period.
You did it, Saul. You brought them back.
Not all of them.
21. Helo shoots Sharon - Rapture
Want to have your guts just ripped right out of your body? Shoot and kill your wife so she can go get the kid everyone told you was dead.
OH, HELO! AND SHARON!! I just love these two. I just want to hug them both and tell them things won't always suck so much.
20. Cally kills Boomer - Resistance
This was so important!! I love that they shot it to look like Lee Harvey Oswald's assassination, and I love what this event did for the show in general. It shocked the Cylons, even the human-sympathizers. It raised morale among the crew. It put Chief in an awkward spot, to say the least. And it sent Boomer back to the Basestar. Not to mention Cally got street cred haha.
19. The original Cylon attack with Six and Gaius - Miniseries
And so it began. I love the pose Six and Gaius are in for the blast, she's so maternal (and yet scary because those are her people doing the exploding, mind you) and he's such a coward. Perfect.
18. Starbuck comes back - Crossroads Part II
So this one wasn't higher on the list because we all kind of knew she's come back, right? We KNEW they couldn't have killed the best character on the show. However, it was still damn good to see her again. And to see how calm she seemed. Aw, Starbuck!!
17. Tigh kills Ellen - Exodus Part II
Want to prove your undying loyalty to the Fleet? Kill your own wife for trying to help you get out of prison. Go ahead. I'll wait here.
...Saul, you crazy bastard. Ellen was a dumbass, but did she really deserve death?? Methinks no.
16. The Roslin/Adama kiss - Resurrection Ship Part II
Roslin and Adama are the two most grown up people you could ever come across, and yet in this moment, it's like they're both 13 years old, and she's a scared little girl, and he's a boy that wants her to know everything will be alright. And it's perfect.
15. Gaius cures Roslin's cancer - Epiphanies
This is significant because a. Roslin was cured, which solved a big problem for the Fleet, and b. Oh, so Cylons might be...dare I say it...HELPFUL? My word!!
Not to mention Gaius yet again managed to make himself look like a hero when he really only helped Roslin so he wouldn't have to take command of the office of the President. Mmm hmm.
14. The Hybrid - Razor
This scene ruled for two reasons:
1. "Kara Thrace will bring the herald of the apocalypse."
2. "Kara Thrace is a harbinger of death."
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?
13. Sharon is revealed as a Cylon in the last moment of the Miniseries - Miniseries
This moment is when I realized WHY this show could be so great. For two hours you've gotten to know Boomer, you like her, thinks she's cute, feel bad for her, what have you. And then....TA DAH!!!!! Sorry kids, she's a robutt. I literally looked like this when she walked into frame :O
12. The speech Adama gives about Earth - Mini-Series
The man knows how to give a speech. You'd be lying if you said watching that scene doesn't make you want to jump off your couch and thump your heart with your fist and blurt out a SO SAY WE ALL!!
It won't be an easy journey. It'll be long, and arduous. But I promise you one thing: on the memory of those lying here before you, we shall find it, and Earth shall become our new home. So say we all!
11. Three sees the Final Five - Rapture
WHO DID SHE RECOGNIZE!? And why does seeing those people make her brain leak out through her nose?? CRAZINESS.
10. Adama's speech to his crew right before they go to rescue everyone from New Caprica - Exodus Part I
Best. Speech. Ever.
Gives me goosebumps. Makes me want to wage wars against pretty much anyone. Makes me proud to be an American/human/resident of Earth.
This is the Admiral. You've heard the news, you know the mission. You should also know there is only one way that this mission ends: and that's with the sucessful rescue of our people, off of New Caprica. Look around you. Take a good look at the men and women that stand next to you. Remember their faces, for one day you will tell your children and your grandchildren that you served with such men and women as the universe has never seen. And together, you'll accomplish the feat that will be told and retold down through the ages, and find immortality as only the gods once knew. I'm proud to serve with you. Good hunting.
9. I loooooove Kara Thraaaaace - Unfinished Business
Just like that?
Just like that.
It's not often UST (unresolved sexual tension for you n00bs) gets TOTALLY BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER in such a FANTASTIC AND AMAZING WAY. Granted, if you're not a Kara/Lee person this scene may not have done much for you, but I ate it UP. Usually you'll get two people finally kissing, or finally sleeping together, but you never have them standing up and literally screaming it to the skies that I LOOOOOVE KARA THRAAAAACE!!!! And I DON'T CARE WHO FRAKKING KNOWS!!!!
And let's not forget KARA THRACE LOVES LEE ADAMA!!!!! &hearts
8. They find the Tomb of Athena - Home Part II
I thought we were in the tomb of Athena.
I think that was just the lobby.
This is one of those moments that truly make this show what it is - it may be about the military, or politics, or robots, but it's also about myths, legends, and hope. This scene was all about hope for me, and I think it is fantastic. It took the show to a whole new level. BSG: Now with 100% more magic!
7. Lee's speech - Crossroads Part II
Not only does this speech sum up ALL of Season 3 in one short paragraph, it shows Lee FINALLY coming into his own. Lee's gonna do what Lee wants to do now, and that is very, very important.
I heard after they filmed this scene all of the other actors in the room gave Jamie Bamber a standing ovation. Well deserved.
This case, this case is built on emotion, on anger, bitterness, but most of all it's built on shame. It's about the shame of what we did to ourselves back on that planet. It's about the guilt of those of us who ran away, who ran away. And we are trying to dump all of that guilt and all that shame onto one man, and then flush him out the airlock, and just hope that that gets rid of it all. So that we can live with ourselves. But that won't work. That won't work. That's not justice, not to me. Not to me.
6. Kara dies - Maelstrom
See, there's nothing so terrible about death, when you finally face it...it's beautiful.
I don't know which is more heart wrenching - seeing Kara giving up or seeing Adama trying to handle the loss. After this episode aired I actually felt depressed, as of someone had really died, and it was as if watching Bill Adama lose it like that was somehow an invasion of his privacy. Sounds crazy, I know. But that's why I love this show. Sometimes it's just really raw and unforgiving of the characters, and this was one of those times.
5. The Invasion - Lay Down Your Burdens Part II
What do you want to do now, Captain?
The same thing we always do. Fight them until we can't.
I was only watching this after the fact, so I can't IMAGINE how you guys felt when THAT was the season finale. A-MAY-ZING. And everyone thought the Lost flash forward was awesome haha.
4. Boomer shoots Adama - Kobols' Last Gleaming Part II
Congratulations to both of you. You carried out a very difficult and dangerous mission, and you did it...despite any...personal misgivings you may or may not have had...and for that I'm very proud. Thank you.
Thank you, sir. *BANG*
Another insane shocker of a finale. I could NOT believe this. My reaction to this was what made me realize I had gone from liking this show to LOVING it.
3. The Shape of Things to Come scene - Kobol's Last Gleaming Part II
Life has a melody, Gaius. A rhythm of notes that become your existence once played in harmony with God's plan. It's time to do your part and realize your destiny.
This scene - the way it's shot, the music, the dreamlike feeling it has - I just adore it. I think it is perfect, and I especially love that while this is going on, Boomer is shooting Adama. It truly is the shape of things to come. It's taking mythology, religion, and destiny - and mixing it up with bloodshed, betrayal, and revenge. That's BSG in a nutshell, I think.
2. Galactica storms New Caprica - Exodus Part II
I just...I have no words. This is the wikipedia description of this moment:
"Suddenly, Galactica jumps into the upper atmosphere and launches Vipers during free-fall (This maneuver is known to fans as the 'Adama maneuver'). Wreathed in fire, and about to crash to the ground, Galactica jumps away with a loud thunderclap..."
Two words, guys. FRAKKING EPIC.
1. The final four revelation - Crossroads Part II
This HAD to be #1 for me. It's been a whole year and I'm STILL shocked that those four are Cylons. I am STILL not over it. And each person's reaction to finding out that they were, in fact, Cylons SLAYS ME.
My name is Saul Tigh. I'm an officer in the Colonial Fleet. Whatever else I am, whatever else it means, that's the man I want to be. And if I die today, that's the man I'll be.
Comments are always lovely, and if you'd like to friend me, feel free, I don't bite. :D
