So my mom wasn't really specific about my cat, leaving me to think she was dying of a kidney problem. I talked to her today and got all the facts straight- leaving me feeling SIGNIFICANTLY better.
My cat, being the turd that she is, gets depressed when I am gone. Ten days after I left for school, she stopped eating. Sushi is siamese. Therefore, she has no body fat storages. She also happens to have a common problem amongst siamese: one of her kidneys is too small and does not function.
This all means that once she stopped eating, her body immediately began eating itself- just like the worst stages of human anorexia. In her case, this led to immediate kidney problems due to a build up of toxins and only one kidney to filter it all.
This all means that my cat isn't dying of some kidney disease, like I originally thought based on what my mom said. Instead, because of my cat's depression, there is a chance she permanently damaged her only kidney- which is why they're doing blood tests. In short, there is a chance that my cat didn't harm herself too much and that she will recover completely. There's also a chance that she damaged her kidney too much and that we will have to inject her with fluids on a regular basis for the rest of her life.
This is not the first time this has happened- it also occured last term. This time, though, it was far worse. My parents have medication now for her that essentially increases her appetite, so next time they will be ready to catch it before any real damage occurs, hopefully.
