People need to get their definition of 'wank' right. 'Wank' is not when someone calls out sexism, racism, etc; wank is "ridiculous, circular or inappropriately elaborate argument about something, especially if obnoxious, pretentious or outright unsubstantial

hah, i have a pretty loose definition of wank - i go to sf_drama, it's kind of a requirement there. as long as there is mindnumbing stupid on at least one side of a convo then i'm good. i don't think that demeans ppl arguing with the stupid or what they're saying. snark the stupid, not ppl trying to reveal it, and all that.

what's bothering me are ppl failing to see the stupid/defending it. like, take the wank post. i was SURE that including the spain nt post is gonna be a good thing (more ppl seeing the fail and disagreeing with it, or whatever). imagine my surprise.

Yeah I lurk at sf_drama allllll the time (OT- I wish certain people on _fb could be forced to lurk there, they'd learn a lot). I think I have a more specific definition b/c I first came across it ~back in the day at fandom wank, which is mostly about stupid pointless fandom arguments.

I'm not overly surprised people aren't seeing why certain stupids are problematic, since they're being lumped together with legit funny stuff. I know that more than just us have issues with it, but I don't think any of us want to take the full TROLOLOLO force of _fb over it.

right? actually, i know for a fact some ppl from _fb are members there, but that hasn't stop them from spouting misogynistic bs. it's so disappointing and you're exactly right - i certainly don't have the energy or time to argue with ppl and their backwards ideas about women. or anything else.

I left ontd_fb after the bashing RCH received on fbconffesions. We work our asses off for this cause and than we get bashed by stupid anons. I had enough of that place. I might return one day but rn I don't want to write there.

whoops, didn't notice it was flocked. Basically someone dredged up all the wank from the past year. Some is pretty funny, like people bitching over icons or whining about how much ~better _fb was way back when, but also included is when people called others out on sexism/racism etc. People are lolling at both equally. smh

Considering the comments in the posts themselves I wasn't really expecting anything better this time.

I don't check _fb as often as I once did anymore and I comment even more seldom, liverpoolreds are enough for me. I don't really care for wank and drama tbqh and there are less of it over there (there some irony in here somewhere isn't it).

Haha I think it did originate from that definition of the word-- something about people "getting off" on having pointless, endless arguments.

Are you part of any ASOIAF comms? I kind of want to check some out with the HBO series coming up and all.

No I'm not but I have a friend who is a member of game_thrones and I'v been meaning to join her (I'm the same as you here, I want to check them ut now with the new series and all) but I keep forgetting to do so. If that's the best ASOIAF lj comm I have no idea though.

Definitely, absolutely drowning. I don't know how I got the idea in my head that my last semester as an undergrad would be the easiest. So, so wrong, haha!
