This week I had the privilege of becoming a baker’s apprentice for the afternoon. A baker’s apprentice/babysitter.

My dear friend Kim and I trade services. She has a hair salon in her home, and so every three weeks or so I babysit her kids in exchange for what would cost FAR more than a babysitter would be paid. Shhh don’t tell.

Writers often are smart asses. Case in point the email I wrote my friend this week. We knew we were going to hang out towards the end of the week, but hadn’t yet set up a date/time. Instead of a simple: “hey what time are we getting together?” I sent the following:

 Words are a powerful tool, and they've been used throughout the ages.  They've won wars, they've allowed communication between lovers, and above all else they're a way of human expression.  For what are humans, other than animals with the deepest and most simple need to express.
