Sorry, I just had a total freak-out moment when I saw that REUNESQUE replied to me. Runesque of the awesome artwork that is the very reason I started writing 1896 in the first place!

Anyway, I'm really, really glad you liked this first chapter (yes, there is more to come, and ch. 2 ought to be posted by Saturday...I hope...). 1896 is a tad difficult to write without making Hibari OOC (18Xanybody is a bit difficult to write without making him OOC in general, I think), and I'm happy to see that you think I pulled it off. :D
But yes, theirs is definitely a quiet sort of love, one made up of actions and not words, on either side. And that 4th paragraph...it's the first time i've written something that adult, so I'm glad somebody likes it (I keep waiting for someone to shout "Pervert!" at me o.o).
I love the sisterhood! We don't see enough of the girls, in my opinion, and everybody knows that behind every powerful man is a strong woman (Egyptian statues, anybody?), so writing that hidden side is always fun.
Ah, yes, her "firsts." PokerFace, my brother, tells me that those paragraphs are like my manifesto on why Chrome can't end up with anyone BUT Hibari. Which is true, since Hibari's "firsts" were by far my favorite to write. Glad you liked the other couples, though, and the brief mention of her mother was inspired by your doujinshi "a mother's love". thanks for that, and thanks for commenting! :)

Oooh so this isn't a one-shot?? And is chapter two centered around Hibari's firsts? =D That definitely sounds interesting! Don't worry, no one would shout pervert at you if it's something sensual rather than sexual... I personally prefer the former to the latter. Leaves more to the imagination. But, hey, both are fine too *winkwink*
When you say "behind every powerful man is a strong woman" I immediately think of Ancient Roman coins and Messalina XDD. But Ancient Egypt seems more apt. Yeah, I wish the girls were more relevant in the manga; I mean, there's a lot of story to be told there! Speaking of- Oh, A Mother's Love *blush*. Chrome's mom is an intriguing supporting character, isn't she? I would've liked to see her again in canon except it seems that canon doesn't like to revisit backstories.....
