Does anyone else find this strange??
Mike handed me his SS card today to hold as he was putting things back in his wallet. I glanced down and noticed that the first 5 digits of his number are 525-XX. The first 5 digits of my number are 525-XX+2. I found this to be a little unusual, so I did some research on the web to find out how numbers are assigned. I knew the first three numbers are assigned by area (hence, the "area number") - 525 and 585 are the only numbers assigned to New Mexican residents. The next two numbers - the group number - are assigned as follows: ODD - 01, 03, 05, 07, 09, then EVEN - 10 to 98, then EVEN - 02, 04, 06, 08, and finally ODD - 11 to 99. So, even though we aren't in order sequentially, it still seems rather strange that our numbers are so similar.
