Headaches....

I've always had headaches....all my life. At first, they thought it was my eyes. When I got those fixed, they thought it was my stress level. Since that has been up and down since then, now my mom thinks it's my hormones. I don't take BC, so I don't think that could be the culprit.

The new doc wants to put me on preventative migraine meds, but quite frankly it's scary to think that I won't be able to have the pills that actually work while on the preventative stuff; that I'll just have to deal with it if something crops up. Plus, I don't want to be stuck on a daily pill if I don't need it.

The pessimist in me is always thinking the worst case scenario, so I'm thinking that I want a CAT scan just to make sure everything's in working order up there since I was only given a physical check for things like stroke, anyurism, and the like . I've done some research online, but it's looking like I'll need to keep a "headache journal" to establish a need for further tests. Well, that's all fine and good, but it doesn't tell me what needs to be in it and I don't want to pay for a visit to the doctor just for that info. So, I guess I'm asking what do you think a doctor would want to know? Here's the things I can think of, if you think of any that I have missed, please let me know.

When did it start?
Where was the pain?
What kind of pain was it?
What did you try to get rid of it?
How long did it last after the remedies you tried?

I thought about including things like blood pressure (from this little wrist cuff reader I have), but I won't always have it with me...

Today I woke up with a migraine, and I took OTC for it (cause the new doctor is extremely stingy with the medicine that works) but had to resort to using the Maxalt. It still took 5 hours for it to pass. I feel like I'm having headaches every other day and it's starting to worry me. Any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
