Still in a nostalgic mood, so I'm going Old-School... anya_elizabeth November 29 2009, 14:49:14 UTC
First fic that comes to mind? PG-13. I just had to look it up to check which one of the series it was, and oh God it still quite literally makes me stop breathing. When I read that first? I think I might have actually died right then. I am of course talking about Almost, at Times, the Fool.

The rest of the series is, of course, smokin' hot *reads chap 20 of A Wizard Song again to, ahem, confirm* but that was such a defining moment on my path to Snarry and, indeed, to good writing. I remember thinking at the time that I wanted to be able to write a kiss that incendiary. It's a long-term goal. :)

THe other fic which springs to mind - and it does so quite a lot, actually - is A Choriambic Progression. That scene in the forest at the end... yeah. Defining moment again. I want to, one day, write something that perfect.

And I am not going to talk about amanuensis1. I devour my flangst and fluff. I seek out the happy and the angst with happy endings and the simply smutty. But deep dark bits of my psyche cry oh God yes to Amanuensis.

*Nods* There's definitely more to eroticism than explicit sex. I was about to rec a Star Trek fic that I really enjoyed that was both PG-13 and insanely hot. But I decided to keep this HP focused (except for that last Merlin rec that insisted on staying on the list).

I think I'm one of the few people that isn't overly fond of A Choriambic Progression. I should probably re-read it one of these days. Though I'm also not especially fond of Between Days either and every loves it, too. Different strokes, I suppose. *shrugs*

And so much WORD about amanuensis1. Dark, hot, and wrong. I love her and ravenna_c_tan for those.

Oooh go on, I wanna see Trek fic! I like to dabble :)

*nods* Different strokes indeed, I can think of plenty of fic that everyone loves but just didn't work for me. It's fine except you can't help being a bit sad cos it seems like you're missing a party!

Oh, exactly. There are a few popular Snarry authors that I just never like anything from and it just about kills me.

Well, since you asked. Some Trek recs:
How to Avoid Kicking Puppies and Other Valuable Lessons in Leadership No porn, but lots of UST
I'm Just a Jealous Guy Kirk/McCoy that is fantastic and made my K/S OTP-lovin' soul wibble.
The Illustrated Man Another K/Mc by the last author.
And You Take Me the Way that I Am Okay, I love everything from this author. Girl!McCoy/Kirk
Stars Apart Shine the Same K/S finally.

I'll stop here. ;D

I rarely read outside of HP, but I should, because these are awesome. K/S one is my fave though. The new film has made me such a shipper! And of course, K/S has the best ship-name-smoosh. I always like the ones with the best name-smoosh. Is there a technical word for that?

You mean Kock or Spork? Trust me, those are all courtesy of Reboot. Most of the old TOSers would spit on you for it. ;D

*snicker* But - but - name-smooshing that epic just shows the ship is fate! Other ships don't even have the privilege of a pronounceable name-smoosh, let alone a real word!
